PROJECT ARCHITECT | DESIGNER NANDINEE PHOOKAN ARCHITECTS (NPA) is an architecture and design firm based in DUMBO, Brooklyn. The firm’s work spans planning, architecture, interior design, furniture, and product design. Current project types include public projects in transportation and resiliency, healthcare, and multi-family residential developments.
NPA is seeking a motivated, organized, and design-driven Project Architect/Designer to join its team. Working directly under the Principals, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading and contributing to the design and execution of projects, including multi-family residential work, from early concept through construction administration. This role requires a strong ability to both develop and apply design concepts, translating them into high-quality, buildable solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor junior team members in both design and production of architectural documents.
- Develop design concepts for multi-family residential projects, including unit layouts, common areas, building massing, façade articulation, and material strategies.
- Translate conceptual design into schematic, design development, and construction document phases.
- Set up drawing sets and organize construction drawings and specifications based on NPA standards.
- Coordinate with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, and other consultants.
- Resolve technical and design issues; develop details aligned with project design intent and NPA standards.
- Communicate effectively with contractors; demonstrate strong knowledge of materials and construction methods.
- Assist with Bid & Negotiation and provide Construction Administration, including review of shop drawings, RFIs, change orders, and applications for payment; develop punch lists and closeout documents.
Desired Skills
- 5–7 years of experience across all project phases, including strong design experience on multi-family residential projects.
- Proven ability to generate and execute design concepts, not just produce documentation.
- Experience with public and institutional work is a plus.
- Professional degree (B.Arch or M.Arch) from an accredited program.
- NY State architectural license preferred.
- Strong knowledge of NYC Zoning and Building Codes, including residential regulations, energy codes, and accessibility requirements.
- Proficiency in Revit/AutoCAD with strong experience in construction documents and detailing.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Experience with 3D modeling and rendering tools (Rhino, Enscape, or similar).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and team management skills.
- Strong design sensibility with attention to detail and the ability to work under deadlines.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Competitive salary and benefits package based on skills and experience.
