Position: Nanodetector Scientis t

As a Nanodetector Scientist, you will serve as an individual contributor reporting directly to the Director of Nanodetector Development. You will focus on detector performance, developing test plans, automated run protocols, and analyses that drive stable DNA transport through our nanodetector chips to maximize the efficiency and improve the data quality of the resulting electronic signals.

Drawing on your expertise at the intersection of device physics, microfluidics, and nanotechnology, you'll tackle improvements in both detector physics and instrument- and detector-level fluidics. You'll apply data-driven methods to optimize the system, collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate improvements, and evaluate emerging technologies to keep our platform ahead. This hands-on role is on-site in Providence, RI, and demands a strong technical background, a problem-solving mindset, and the drive to move product development forward.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute comprehensive, hypothesis-driven test plans to critically evaluate detector modifications (designs, materials, and surface treatments), driving data-driven improvements in performance
  • Develop and optimize automated run protocols that control DNA transport through both instrument- and detector-level fluidics
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Assay Development, and Software, to integrate detector-focused solutions into the overall platform
  • Prepare clear, detailed data analysis reports and documentation, translating findings into actionable insights that support ongoing development
  • Stay current with emerging technologies in microfluidics, nanotechnology, and related fields to identify new opportunities for innovation and efficiency gains

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field (M.S. with equivalent experience considered)
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with microfluidic systems, lab-on-chip devices, surface science, or related bioanalytical instrumentation involving fluid handling and analytical detection
  • Experience with pressure-driven flow systems, electrokinetics, and fluid dynamics at micro/nano scales
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to design experiments, interpret complex data, and implement effective solutions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to excel in cross-functional, interdisciplinary environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with DNA or related biomolecules in microfluidic instrumentation
  • Experience integrating MEMS/NEMS or CMOS devices with microfluidics
  • Proficiency with data-analysis and scientific-computing tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, etc.) for experimental design and statistical analysis

Compensation:

  • Competitive salary and bonus structure
  • Equity stake
  • Benefits include health, dental, vision, 401(k) plan with 50% match up to 6% of base salary, unlimited vacation, and life insurance
