What they need

Select The Best has been formulating and manufacturing equine supplements in Northern Nevada since 1984. We're a small, employee-driven company with a national footprint — our products move through the country's largest animal health distributors and sit on the shelves of feed dealers and tack shops in every state. We're hiring a National Sales Manager to own that channel and grow it.

This is a broad seat. You'll manage our national account relationships, direct a field sales team, set pricing and promotional programs, and sit at the table for new product development. You'll report directly to the President and work closely with our Controller on the sales and marketing budget. If you want a role where you can see the effect of your decisions inside a quarter, this is that role.

What you'll own

National accounts & distribution

  • Serve as key contact for our national distribution partners — corporate visits, strategy meetings, line reviews, and national sales meetings.
  • Build the annual promotional calendar with each partner: buy-in incentives, growth rebates, show specials, and co-op programs.
  • Partner with distribution on sell-through and inventory data, and feed that analysis back into our production forecast.
  • Win shelf presence at brick-and-mortar retail through suggested displays, planograms, and end caps.
  • Build initial stock offering (ISO) programs that keep new items from bottlenecking at the regional branch level.

Sales team leadership

  • Manage and develop the field sales team and their territories; set goals, track performance, and hold a regular cadence of quarterly team meetings and individual check-ins.
  • Map out ride-alongs, branch blitzes, and regional promotional pushes with reps.
  • Deliver product and sales training to reps, distributor sales forces, dealers, and end users.
  • Assign direct and dealer accounts to reps by geography, and push show registration and attendance down to the team.

Pricing, programs & planning

  • Prepare and recommend pricing schedules across distributor, dealer, catalog, and direct channels.
  • Compile and evaluate sales numbers by product, territory, and account; act on what the numbers say.
  • Prepare, implement, and manage all sales and marketing plans and programs.
  • Build and recommend trade show and promotional budgets, and submit the annual sales and marketing budget with the President and Controller.

Product & brand

  • Participate in new product development — analyze market needs, evaluate formulation opportunities, and look at adjacent categories such as grooming and topicals that complement our supplement line.
  • Set the label revision schedule with the Marketing Manager and help develop product detail sheets, flyers, and sell sheets.
  • Identify private label and toll manufacturing opportunities across animal health — equine, livestock, and pet — and manage existing partnerships, using them to open doors for the Select The Best brand.

Trade shows & customers

  • Coordinate, staff, and attend distributor trade shows, dealer open houses, and horse shows; identify which regional shows need your support alongside the rep.
  • Respond to distribution channel questions and needs, attract new customer relationships, and back up the Sales Service department when volume calls for it.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 3 years of sales management experience; high school diploma required, college degree a plus.
  • Experience selling through two-step distribution, or managing national accounts at a consumer-products or animal-health company.
  • A track record of building pricing and promotional programs — not just executing someone else's.
  • Comfort with numbers: you can build a territory analysis and a budget in Excel and defend both.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and standard office equipment.
  • Willingness to travel roughly 33 % including some weekends for shows.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to fly domestically.
  • Equine, livestock, pet, or animal health industry background strongly preferred. Horse experience is a real advantage — our customers can tell.

Physical requirements

  • Primarily office and travel-based work. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs (product samples, show materials, and booth setup).
  • Standing and walking for extended periods at trade shows and horse shows.

Compensation — base plus an uncapped growth incentive

$115-135K per year base, depending on experience and industry background.

Sales incentive: 2% of incremental sales volume over the prior year. No cap.

Grow the business and your earnings grow with it, with no ceiling. The incentive is paid on the increase over the previous year's sales, and is contingent on the company maintaining its current level of profitability — we are paying for profitable growth, not volume bought with margin.

Benefits include health insurance, PTO, life insurance. Full incentive plan terms, including the baseline calculation and payout schedule, are provided in writing at offer.

Apply through this posting with a resume and a short note about a distribution or national account relationship you grew, and by how much.
