What they need

Solve the toughest CEMS problems. Teach others how. Help build what comes next.

Pacific Standard Environmental, Inc.
U.S. home base Nationwide search Approximately 25%–35% travel
$190,000–$230,000 base salary + 25% target annual performance bonus

You know the instruments. You understand the sample systems. You can work through the electronics, mechanics, and pneumatics—and recognize when an equipment decision could create a compliance problem.

When a difficult CEMS issue comes up, you are the person others call.

But your greatest contribution is not just solving the problem. It is helping the next technician understand how to solve it, why the solution works, and how to approach the next unfamiliar challenge.

Pacific Standard Environmental is looking for that combination: an exceptional CEMS practitioner, a patient and effective teacher, and a technical leader who takes ownership.

We are building toward national coverage. We want to grow without losing what makes our service valuable: responsive support, maintenance tailored to each installation, disciplined follow-through, and customers who trust us to help manage their CEMS programs.

You will help develop the people, technical judgment, and service practices that make that possible.

This is a leadership-team position reporting to our General Manager/Integrator, with direct access to the CEO.

You will have authority to establish technician competency and qualification standards, lead technical development, and strengthen field-service practices in collaboration with service operations and engineering.

You will remain hands-on through advanced troubleshooting, field coaching, customer training, and selected technical assignments. At the same time, at least 40% of your working time during the first six months will be protected for technician development, training creation, and knowledge capture.

We are not hiring you simply to stay busy solving everyone else’s problems. We are hiring you to make the entire team more capable.

What you will lead

Develop technicians who can think beyond the equipment they already know.
Begin with an initial group of six technicians and assess their individual strengths, gaps, and readiness for independent work. Build practical development paths for new, established, and highly experienced technicians. Strengthen electronic, mechanical, and pneumatic fundamentals, diagnostic reasoning, and the ability to work methodically with unfamiliar equipment.

Build training that works in the field.
Create and deliver hands-on instruction, troubleshooting exercises, field coaching, technical workshops, and useful reference materials. Develop clear, task-specific qualification standards based on demonstrated ability—not simply years of service or completed classes. Help experienced technicians become effective mentors.

Connect technical work with sound compliance judgment.
Teach technicians to understand the applicable requirements before interacting with equipment, recognize the implications of maintenance and adjustments, document their work correctly, and complete the appropriate checks before considering an assignment finished.

Protect and improve PSE’s service model.
Strengthen preventive maintenance plans that are specific to the site, source, and instrumentation. Help ensure findings and punch-list items are identified promptly, communicated clearly, and tracked to a documented outcome. Improve emergency troubleshooting and technical escalation so customers receive immediate engagement and efficient resolution when equipment fails.

Be a trusted technical resource.
Provide advanced support to technicians, staff, and customers. Work with engineering on difficult technical issues and assist our parts-sales team with challenging parts identification when additional expertise is needed. Share knowledge in ways that improve future decisions rather than create dependence on a single expert.

Deliver valuable customer training.
Develop and perform billable, on-site CEMS operator and maintenance training. Help customer personnel better understand their equipment, maintenance responsibilities, and monitoring programs. Participate in selected billable technical assignments that benefit from your expertise.

Help modernize field support and learning.
Guide the practical use of smart glasses, remote-assistance tools, and appropriately reviewed AI-supported resources. Help technicians work through difficult tasks in real time while explaining the reasoning behind each step. Prior experience with a particular wearable platform is not required.

The experience we are looking for

  • More than 15 years of relevant CEMS experience, with a substantial hands-on field-service foundation. A background combining CEMS field service and compliance advisement is welcome.
  • Broad, multimanufacturer experience with commonly deployed CEMS instrumentation and complete monitoring systems in applications such as cement plants, refineries, turbine-based power generation, and comparable industrial facilities.
  • Strong troubleshooting fundamentals across electronics, mechanical systems, pneumatics, sample extraction and conditioning, calibration systems, analyzer operation, and relevant data-acquisition interfaces.
  • Practical compliance knowledge and the judgment to consult the applicable permit, procedures, regulations, and technical references rather than assume one approach fits every installation.
  • Demonstrated teaching and mentoring ability, including the patience to work with different experience levels and the communication skills to explain complex issues clearly.
  • A willingness to travel, work at customer facilities, follow site safety requirements, and remain technically engaged.

Engineering experience is valuable, but an engineering degree is not required.

Experience developing training programs, supporting multiple facilities, leading technical teams, or performing source testing is an advantage. Prior service-department management experience is welcome, but it is not required. Any expansion into service-department management would be discussed explicitly rather than assumed.

How you work matters as much as what you know

You maintain high standards without making people afraid to ask questions.

You investigate before jumping to conclusions. You know when to keep troubleshooting, when to consult the documentation, and when to bring in additional expertise.

You document what matters, communicate findings promptly, and follow through. You respect the customer’s operation and understand that the job is not complete simply because the instrument is running again.

Most importantly, you enjoy helping other people become better at their work.

Compensation, benefits, and working arrangements

Base salary: $190,000–$230,000 annually, based on relevant experience, demonstrated capabilities, and scope of contribution.

Annual performance incentive: 25% of base salary at target. This creates target annual cash compensation of $237,500–$287,500, depending on base salary. Incentive payments are performance-dependent and are not guaranteed.

Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision plan options, plus a 401(k) plan. Eligibility, contributions, and current plan details will be discussed early in the interview process.

Location: We welcome candidates throughout the United States. Relocation to Southern California is not required. Work can be performed remotely when you are not traveling.

Travel: Approximately 25%–35%, potentially higher during initial assessments, onboarding, and certain assignments. Travel will include customer facilities, technician-development activities, and collaboration at PSE’s Santa Ana, California headquarters. Business travel expenses are company-paid.

Schedule and support: Full-time, with scheduling coordinated around customer needs, training, and travel. Technical-escalation responsibilities will include defined coverage and backup rather than an undefined expectation of constant availability.
