About Us

Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center (BEEC) is a nonprofit nature center in southern Vermont, dedicated to connecting people of all ages with the natural world. Through hands-on environmental education programs, community events, and stewardship of our trails and habitats, we inspire a deeper understanding and appreciation of the environment.

About the Role

Join our team supporting children ages 4–11 as they explore, play, and learn in the natural world. As an Assistant Teacher, you'll work alongside a Lead Teacher to create safe, welcoming, nature-based experiences that build curiosity, confidence, and a lasting connection to the outdoors.

What You'll Do

• Help plan and lead hands-on, nature-centered activities
• Build warm and supportive relationships with children
• Keep children safe through active supervision, following program protocols
• Observe children's participation and growth to inform program planning
• Support an inclusive environment and help adapt activities so every child can take part
• Join staff meetings and trainings

What We're Looking For

• Interest in nature-based, environmental, or outdoor education
• Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and terrain
• At least one year of experience working with children ages 4–11 in group settings
• Meets, or willingness to complete trainings to meet, Vermont licensing requirements
• CPR/First Aid & certificates or coursework in early childhood/elementary education, environmental education, or a related field

Schedule

• Position starts January 4th 2027, with orientation and training during December 2026
• Afterschool program: Monday to Thursday 2-6pm, when school is in session
• Day Camps: 8am-4pm on days of no school following the WSESU calendar
• 20 days on select vacation days, teacher-in-service days, and holidays
• 7 weeks of summer camp

Compensation & Benefits

• The person in this position will work an average of 20 hours per week
• Pay is $18-22 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience
