Naval Architect

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering or a closely related discipline.

Experience:

At least 5-8 years of relevant vessel-design experience; practical boatbuilding, shipbuilding, yacht, workboat or shipyard exposure is strongly preferred

Job Responsibilities:

Vessel Design & Analysis

• Develop concepts, preliminary and detailed naval architecture designs, including hull geometry, lines plans and general arrangements.
• Perform hydrostatic, intact/damage stability as applicable, displacement, trim, resistance, powering and other vessel-performance calculations.
• Develop and maintain weight estimates, weight reports and center-of-gravity control throughout the project lifecycle.
• Evaluate vessel performance against contractual and operational requirements and recommend technically justified improvements.

Engineering Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare and review calculations, drawings, specifications, stability information and technical reports.
• Apply applicable flag-state, statutory, classification-society and contractual requirements relevant to the vessel type.
• Prepare technical submissions and close classification/client comments in coordination with the Design team.
• Maintain design revision and configuration control and ensure approved information is released to Production.

Production, Commissioning & Trials

• Provide engineering support during fabrication, assembly, outfitting, launching and commissioning.
• Assess production deviations and design queries and issue approved technical solutions.
• Support inclining experiments, harbor acceptance tests and sea trials; analyze results and recommend corrective actions where required.

Integration & Optimization

• Coordinate interfaces with structural, mechanical, electrical, outfitting, procurement and project disciplines.

Improve constructability, weight, material utilization, performance and lifecycle value while minimizing design-related rework and cost.
