Position Overview

CalSTRS is seeking an experienced Full Stack Developer to support its Benefit Connect pension administration system. The consultant will work across software design, development, testing, test automation, defect management, requirements analysis, system integration, and technical documentation.

Benefit Connect is a browser-based pension administration solution built on the Sagitec Neospin framework and supported by the Microsoft .NET framework.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, enhance, and maintain browser-based business applications.
• Develop applications using the Microsoft .NET technology stack , including C#, ASP.NET, and MVC.
• Develop web user interfaces using JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, and XML .
• Design and develop applications utilizing Microsoft SQL Server .
• Analyze existing application data models and develop complex SQL queries and stored procedures.
• Participate throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) , including requirements analysis, software design, coding, integration, testing, and documentation.
• Design technical frameworks for new applications and enhancements to existing applications.
• Analyze use cases, specifications, and technical/business requirements.
• Develop automated tests based on manual test cases and business requirements.
• Develop reusable automated testing components and shared test libraries.
• Develop testing utilities supporting unit, system integration, functional and regression testing .
• Create and maintain testing environments, test harnesses, test data, and test cases.
• Perform regression testing during maintenance releases.
• Analyze test results, identify defects/anomalies, and refine test cases and test data.
• Document and track defects using enterprise defect-management tools.
• Participate in defect triage meetings and communicate release and defect status to stakeholders.
• Conduct impact assessments, gap analysis, process mapping, root-cause analysis, risk analysis, and requirements elicitation.
• Develop technical documentation, including software design and development artifacts.
• Manage software code version control.
• Work collaboratively with development, QA, business, and other stakeholder teams.

Mandatory Qualifications

Candidates must meet all of the following experience requirements :

Full Stack / .NET Development

8+ years of experience within the last 10 years as a Software Developer leading or participating in technical implementations involving complex business processes, including:

• Microsoft .NET and ASP.NET
• MVC architecture
• C# and object-oriented programming
• jQuery
• JavaScript
• HTML
• XML
• Development of testing utilities supporting unit and system-integration testing.

SQL Server Development

8+ years of experience within the last 10 years involving:

• Microsoft SQL Server development
• Understanding and interpreting existing application data models
• Writing complex SQL queries
• Stored procedures
• Complex joins
• Grouping and sorting logic.

Automated Testing

5+ years of experience within the last 10 years implementing automated testing for large organizations, including:

• Converting manual test cases/business requirements into automated tests
• Creating reusable test-step libraries
• Developing tools supporting broader adoption of test automation
• Automated regression testing
• Test automation using Java, Python, Shell Scripting or another programming language
• Reducing regression testing cycles through automation
• Increasing testing coverage through automated tests.

Testing & QA

Candidates must also have:

• 5+ years preparing software test harnesses, test tools, test environments, test datasets and test cases covering system, functional, performance and regression testing.
• 5+ years producing testing requirements, testing platform architecture, test plans/strategies, test specifications and configurations for integration, system, regression, stress and load testing.
• 5+ years using defect-tracking tools such as JIRA, Bugzilla, HP ALM or JAMA .
• 5+ years translating business, functional and technical requirements into test requirements and test cases.
• 5+ years analyzing test results, developing test scripts, identifying defects/anomalies and fine-tuning test data/test cases.

SQL / Data

• 3+ years performing data manipulation, reporting and validation using SQL queries.

Requirements Analysis

• 3+ years working with requirements-elicitation methodologies and documenting:
• Business use cases
• Business rules
• Functional requirements
• Nonfunctional requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent oral communication and technical writing skills.
• Strong T-SQL experience, including stored procedures, triggers, user-defined functions and views.
• 2+ years performing parallel testing and automated testing.
• Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
• Knowledge of database administration activities associated with deploying and configuring multi-tier web applications using Microsoft SQL Server as the backend.
