What they need

Wellington Electricity

Wellington Electricity has been powering the lives, homes, and businesses of Wellingtonians since 2008 and is proud to be one of Aotearoa’s most reliable lines companies.

Our mission is to own and operate a sustainably profitable electricity distribution business which provides a safe, reliable, cost effective and high-quality energy delivery system to our customers.

About the Roles

We're looking for both a Network Controller and a Relief Network Controller to join our Operations & SCADA Control team. These are critical operational roles responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of Wellington's electricity network.

If you're an experienced electricity industry professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys making sound decisions under pressure, we'd like to hear from you.

You'll coordinate planned and unplanned network activities, manage network access, support outage restoration and work closely with field crews, contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure the network remains safe and available for customers.

Both the Network Controller and Relief Network Controller positions have the same core responsibilities and require the same technical capability and decision-making skills. The key difference is how the roles are rostered.

Network Controller

As an experienced Network Controller, you will operate within our 24/7 control room environment and be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing HV switching programmes
  • Managing network access and issuing permits
  • Coordinating planned and unplanned network outages
  • Maintaining accurate network configuration and SCADA information
  • Monitoring network security and performance
  • Providing technical advice and operational support to internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting network investigations, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives

Relief Network Controller

The Relief Network Controller performs the same operational functions and provides leave and roster coverage for the Network Controller team.

When providing relief coverage, you'll work the Network Controller roster. When not providing relief coverage, you'll work regular business hours and contribute to operational support, network control activities, projects, investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you'll bring

To be successful in either role, you'll have:

  • An electrical trade, technical qualification, or equivalent industry experience
  • Proven experience working on HV electricity networks in a technical or operational role
  • Experience managing network outages, restoration activities and switching operations
  • Strong knowledge of electricity industry operating standards and network operations
  • Experience using systems such as SCADA, GIS, OMS or similar operational platforms
  • Strong safety awareness and a commitment to operational excellence
  • The ability to assess operational risk and make sound decisions under pressure
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A collaborative approach with the ability to build effective working relationships across internal and external stakeholders
  • Flexibility to work on a 24-hour shift roster.

Why Join Us?

  • Up to 10% (of total remuneration) incentive bonus
  • Insurance benefits including Income Protection, Trauma, Life & Terminal Illness cover
  • Annual wellbeing allowance
  • Brand new building and location in Upper Hutt
  • Diverse & inclusive workplace
  • A culture that supports continuous learning and development
  • Purpose driven work with real community impact
