What they need
Referment is working with a regulated European stock exchange operator based in the City of London. Its small, expert Network team is expanding and is looking for a Network Engineer to support, shape, optimise and scale a low-latency trading network that spans cloud and on-premises environments.
The Role You'll split your time between daily operations and project work. On the operational side, you'll run daily checks of the network and security infrastructure, investigate faults using logs, monitoring tools and packet captures, and support the live trading platforms during market hours. You'll manage client onboarding, access requests and decommissioning, liaise with telecoms providers on leased lines and circuits, and support and validate planned network and security changes. You'll also maintain high-quality documentation of the infrastructure and participate in incident investigation and root-cause analysis.
There's room to take on increasing responsibility for project-based delivery as your experience develops. You'll work a shift rota covering 06:30–18:30, with occasional weekend and Bank Holiday cover and occasional data centre visits in West and East London.
What We're Looking For
- 4+ years in a network and security support engineering role, ideally in financial services.
- CCNP/ACE-P or equivalent experience, with hands-on OSPF and BGP and support/configuration experience of RSTP.
- Firewall cluster and centralised firewall manager experience — Fortinet is advantageous.
- Strong TCP/IP, Spanning Tree, routing and firewall fundamentals, plus IPSEC site-to-site and remote VPN configuration.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting with Wireshark, tcpdump, syslog and SolarWinds or an equivalent platform.
Desirable: PTP understanding, multicast/PIM/RPs, AWS networking, Arista EOS and network automation (Ansible/Python).
This could suit a network engineer from a trading, banking or telecoms background who wants broader ownership in a small team close to a live exchange platform.
