What they need
Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on network engineer to design, configure, and document the networks and communications links that connect our unmanned surface vessels to their operators.
This position suits someone who enjoys making equipment talk to each other, tracking down why a link isn't performing, and keeping configurations accurate and repeatable. You will work in the lab, on the pier, and at sea, on both the vessel and the shore side of the network. The role may be filled at the Network Engineer I or II level depending on experience.
What You'll Do
Network Configuration & Integration
- Configure and integrate radios, satellite terminals, cellular modems, switches, routers, and firewalls on vessels and shore systems
- Implement VLANs, routing, QoS, VPN, and firewall rules according to the fleet network plan
- Build and maintain standard configuration templates and keep configuration files under version control
- Harden network equipment to DISA security standards (STIGs)
Documentation & Change Control
- Create and update network diagrams, interface documentation, and configuration records for assigned vessels and programs
- Implement approved changes and confirm they are reflected in configuration records
- Write network checkout and link test procedures
- Contribute network content to operator manuals and training material
Test & Field Support
- Perform link testing, RF and throughput measurements, and network checkouts
- Support factory acceptance testing, sea trials, and customer events
- Troubleshoot network and link issues and feed fixes back into the design
- Support link budgets, antenna placement, and frequency planning
Skills
- MANET or tactical radios and satellite terminals
- RF fundamentals: link budgets, antennas, spectrum analyzers
- Linux command line; scripting in Python or Bash
- Defense programs with configuration-controlled deliverables
- Network+, CCNA, or Security+
Preferred Backgrounds
Candidates may come from a variety of disciplines, including:
- Network or IT engineering
- Telecommunications
- Military communications (e.g., Navy IT/ET, Army 25-series, USMC communications)
- Electrical or computer engineering
- Engineering technology
- Aerospace or defense programs
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Work Environment
- Engineering laboratories and integration areas
- Production and manufacturing floors
- Pier-side and at-sea vessel operations
- Customer sites, domestic and international — up to 20% travel
Why This Role Matters
Operators can only command what they can reach. This work keeps our vessels connected, secure, and reliable in the field.
