What they need
Network Installation & IT Support Engineer
Power Fibre | Birmingham
About Power Fibre
Power Fibre is a growing Birmingham-based telecommunications company specialising in business broadband, full fibre connectivity, WiFi networks and business communications.
We work with businesses of all sizes, providing reliable connectivity, professional network installations and ongoing technical support.
We're looking for a practical, motivated individual to join our team in a varied role combining hands-on network installations with office-based IT and customer support.
The Role
This is primarily a hands-on installation role, so we're looking for someone who is confident working with tools, running cables and installing networking equipment.
You'll spend time visiting customer premises, installing and maintaining business networks. When you're not out on installations, you'll work alongside our office team, helping customers with technical queries over the phone and via email.
We're happy to provide training on the technical support side of the role. What's most important to us is finding someone practical, capable and willing to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Network Installation & On-Site Work
- Installing routers, network switches, wireless access points and other networking equipment.
- Running and securing Cat5e/Cat6 Ethernet cabling throughout commercial properties.
- Drilling, routing and neatly installing cables.
- Terminating network cables into RJ45 connectors, wall sockets and patch panels.
- Installing and organising network cabinets and associated equipment.
- Testing cabling and network connections.
- Troubleshooting and resolving physical network issues.
- Attending customer premises across Birmingham and surrounding areas.
IT Helpdesk & Customer Support
- Answering customer calls and responding to support emails.
- Helping customers troubleshoot broadband, WiFi and connectivity issues.
- Providing basic remote support for office equipment, including PCs, laptops and printers.
- Diagnosing common IT and networking problems.
- Logging and managing customer support requests.
- Escalating more complex technical issues when necessary.
- Providing a friendly, helpful and professional customer experience.
What We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in someone with hands-on installation experience or strong practical skills.
You don't necessarily need to have worked in telecommunications before, but you should already be confident using tools, drilling and running cables.
Skills & Qualities
- Experience or confidence in carrying out practical installation work.
- Confident using power tools, particularly drills.
- Comfortable running, routing and securing cables neatly.
- Experience installing networking equipment, or a good practical understanding of how it is installed.
- Experience terminating network cables, or the confidence and ability to learn quickly.
- Good practical problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable working independently at customer premises.
- Good communication skills and a professional attitude.
- Comfortable working in an office, answering phone calls and responding to emails.
- An interest in IT, networking and technology.
- Willingness to learn new skills and take on different responsibilities.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience in a technical helpdesk or IT support environment.
- Knowledge of basic networking concepts, including IP addressing, DHCP and DNS.
- Experience troubleshooting broadband and WiFi issues remotely.
- Experience supporting PCs, laptops, printers and other office equipment.
- Familiarity with Windows, macOS and common office software.
- Experience using remote desktop or remote support tools.
- Experience with customer support or ticketing systems.
Previous experience in all of the above is not expected. If you're confident with the physical installation side and keen to develop your IT knowledge, we'll provide support and training to help you build those skills.
Why Join Power Fibre?
We're a growing local business, and this is an opportunity to develop a broad range of skills across networking, telecommunications and IT support.
You'll get to work on real-world installations, help businesses solve technical problems and learn new skills along the way.
We value practical ability, reliability and a willingness to get stuck in just as much as formal qualifications.
If you're good with your hands, enjoy technology and want a role where you're not stuck behind a desk all day, we'd love to hear from you.
Pay: £26,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
