About the Role:

This position requires collaboration with architects, engineers, contractors, and various city agencies to deliver state-of-the-art learning environments that support the educational mission of the city. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and risk management to address challenges that arise during the construction process. Ultimately, the position contributes directly to the enhancement of public school infrastructure, positively impacting thousands of students and educators citywide.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in construction project management, preferably in public sector or educational facility projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, building codes, and safety regulations applicable in New York City.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Registered Architect (RA), or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) in the state of New York.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or advanced certification such as PMP (Project Management Professional).
  • Experience working with public agencies or municipal construction authorities.
  • Familiarity with sustainable building practices and LEED certification processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale capital projects with complex stakeholder environments.
  • Knowledge of New York City procurement and contracting procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee multiple school construction projects from inception through completion, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external consultants, contractors, and city agencies to facilitate smooth project execution and timely delivery.
  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, and resources, implementing corrective actions as necessary to maintain alignment with goals.
  • Conduct site inspections and quality control reviews to ensure construction work meets design specifications and contractual obligations.
  • Prepare detailed reports, documentation, and presentations for stakeholders, including progress updates and risk assessments.

Skills:

The required skills enable the candidate to effectively plan, coordinate, and execute construction projects while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and budgetary constraints. Strong communication skills are essential for liaising with diverse stakeholders, including contractors, city officials, and community members, ensuring transparency and collaboration. Proficiency in project management software facilitates efficient scheduling, resource allocation, and progress tracking. Preferred skills such as knowledge of sustainable building practices and public sector procurement enhance the candidate’s ability to deliver innovative and compliant projects. Together, these skills support the successful delivery of high-quality educational facilities that meet the needs of New York City's students and educators.
