What they need

Next Generation Multilingual Learner Academy Program Coordinator

The Immigrant Welcome and Resource Center (IWRC) serves as a trusted partner and advocate for immigrants, providing opportunities that help them thrive so we can build a more welcoming and prosperous region for all. As an emerging organization in Evansville Indiana, the IWRC seeks to hire a full-time Program Coordinator to help implement the Next Generation Multilingual Learner Academy, a program funded by a Thriving Next Generation grant from United Way of Southwestern Indiana (UWSWIN).

The Program Coordinator will have a unique opportunity to support multilingual learner youth in our region by overseeing Academy activities such as culture and language camps and after school enrichment activities in collaboration with other community partners. The goal of the Academy is to provide students from diverse backgrounds opportunities to develop language (English as well as their first language) and career and academic skills to help them develop a strong sense of identity and succeed in school and beyond. The Program Coordinator role involves supporting development of activities, recruitment of participants, volunteers and community partners, implementing activities during summer camps and after school sessions in collaboration with community partners and volunteers, and coordinating logistics for the Academy. This position will report directly to the IWRC’s Executive Director.

Duties and Essential Job Functions

  • Collaborate with K-12 school teachers, counselors, social workers and other staff to recruit and support student participants
  • Coordinate development of program activities (after school cultural heritage programming and summer camp activities) with relevant vendors
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring and management of part-time summer school staff under the supervision of the IWRC Executive Director and the IWRC Board of Directors
  • Coordinate collaborative programming with community partners (SWIN Workforce Board and the Haitian Center of Evansville) to facilitate program implementation (helping prepare space, gather materials and supplies – including food and snacks, recruit participants, follow up with participants for attendance, coordinate community partner schedules, etc.)
  • Recruit volunteers to support after school and summer camp programming, including collaborating with community partners to plan, implement, and evaluate activities
  • Implement programming (after school tutoring and cultural heritage, one third of summer camps), including coordinating field trips (transportation, permission slips, participation, etc.)
  • Cultivate community partners, corporate sponsors, and potential donors to support the work during the grant period and beyond
  • Assist with development and implementation of an evaluation plan in collaboration with UWSWIN, Diehl Consulting and other community partners, including data gathering and preparing check-in reports
  • Support IWRC outreach, activities, and events in collaboration with other IWRC staff, board members, and community partners
  • Model and act in accordance with IWRC’s mission, vision, and core values

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, behavioral sciences, human services, or social services fields preferred (previous educational experience outside the U.S. considered)
  • Bilingual/biliterate in English and another language and/or experience as an English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor preferred
  • K-12 teaching experience preferred (previous professional experience outside the U.S. considered)
  • Experience providing direct services (through professional work, service learning, or other volunteering opportunities) to foreign-born, immigrant, and/or refugee populations required
  • Able to learn and effectively utilize different technology platforms (Microsoft and Office products, remote meeting technologies, database management)
  • Proven effective time management, organizational, networking, planning, communication (verbal and written), problem-solving and independent work skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with persons from diverse backgrounds and cultures

The ideal candidate for this position is:
