Job Summary

The Cottage Hotel is a charming, independently operated coastal hotel overlooking the beautiful beaches of Hope Cove in South Devon. Known for our stunning location, warm hospitality and relaxed atmosphere, we pride ourselves on providing a welcoming and memorable experience for our guests.

We are looking for a reliable, friendly and practical Night Porter to join our team and take responsibility for the hotel during overnight hours. Hours of work generall 2245 - 0715.

This is a varied, hands-on position, ideally suited to someone who enjoys working independently, takes pride in delivering excellent guest service and is comfortable taking responsibility for the smooth running and security of the hotel overnight. Shifts patterns are 4 nights on, 4 nights off, covering holiday requests when required also.

As the main point of contact for guests during the night, you will play an important role in ensuring everyone feels safe, comfortable and well looked after.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide a friendly and professional welcome to guests arriving or returning to the hotel during the evening and overnight.
• Ensure the safety and security of guests, staff and the property throughout the night.
• Carry out regular security checks of the hotel, grounds and facilities.
• Respond promptly and professionally to guest requests, enquiries or concerns.
• Assist with late check-ins and early departures where required.
• Set up and prepare public areas, lounges and dining spaces ready for the following day's service.
• Undertake light cleaning, tidying and general housekeeping duties to maintain the hotel's presentation.
• Assist with early breakfast preparations and other operational tasks as required.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies, including fire alarms, guest illness or maintenance issues, following hotel procedures.
• Complete an effective handover to the morning team, highlighting any incidents, guest requests or outstanding matters.

About You

We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, common sense and a genuine interest in hospitality.

Ideally, you will have:

• Previous experience in a hotel, hospitality or customer-facing environment, although training can be provided.
• A friendly, approachable and professional manner.
• The confidence to work independently and make sensible decisions.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to help wherever needed.
• A responsible attitude towards guest safety and hotel security.
• Flexibility to work overnight shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
• The ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with unexpected situations.

Pay: £13.21 per hour
