Nighttime Direct Care & Safety Assistant

We are seeking a dependable and attentive nighttime caregiver to provide one-on-one support for an adult with physical and developmental disabilities in a private home.

This is one client in one home—not a facility and not multiple clients.

The right person for this position must be comfortable providing hands-on personal care throughout the night while maintaining a calm and quiet nighttime environment.

Required Night Schedule

• Tuesday: 10:30 PM–4:00 AM
• Wednesday: 10:30 PM–4:00 AM
• Thursday: 10:30 PM–4:00 AM
• Friday: 10:30 PM–4:00 AM
• Saturday: 9:00 PM–5:00 AM
• Sunday: 9:00 PM–4:00 AM
• Monday night: OFF

Total: 37 hours per week

Applicants must be available to work the complete schedule, including Saturday and Sunday nights.

About the Night Shift

This is an awake overnight position. Sleeping during the shift is not permitted.

The individual may wake during the night and require care. Staff must remain attentive and respond promptly when he is awake or needs assistance.

Nighttime care includes:

• Changing briefs and providing hygiene/personal care as needed
• Responding to the individual when he wakes during the night
• Repositioning and assisting with comfort
• Performing Hoyer lift transfers when needed
• Providing mobility and positioning assistance
• Monitoring for seizure activity and aspiration concerns
• Providing supervision and engagement while the individual is awake
• Completing required nighttime care responsibilities
• Completing appropriate household and care-related tasks during downtime
• Cleaning and maintaining caregiving equipment and the immediate care environment
• Following established care routines and instructions
• Completing required documentation

Quiet Nighttime Environment

Because this position is in a private family home, staff must be able to maintain a quiet, respectful atmosphere throughout the night while still remaining awake and attentive.

The goal is to provide the care the individual needs without unnecessarily disturbing the nighttime household environment.

Physical Requirements

This is a hands-on caregiving position. Applicants must be able to safely perform the essential duties of the job, including:

• Hoyer lift transfers
• Personal care and brief changes
• Lifting and repositioning
• Bending and stooping
• Mobility and positioning assistance

Qualifications

• Previous professional or paid caregiving experience preferred
• Dependable attendance
• Reliable transportation
• Comfortable providing hands-on personal care and changing briefs
• Comfortable performing Hoyer lift transfers
• Able to remain awake and attentive throughout the entire shift
• Able to maintain a calm and quiet nighttime environment
• Able to follow established care instructions and routines
• Able to complete required documentation

Paid training is provided.
