What they need

Coach – Octo Ninja

Location: Austin, TX
Hours: 18–25 hours per week (additional hours available during summer and school breaks)
Schedule: 3–4 weekday afternoons and one weekend day

About Octo Ninja

At Octo Ninja, we believe everyone deserves a place to move, explore, challenge themselves, and discover what they're capable of.

Our Austin arena brings together ninja obstacle training, youth fitness classes, birthday parties, camps, and community events in a fun, supportive environment where everyone can be a hero. We primarily work with children ages 5–12, with additional programs for younger children, teens, and adults.

We believe growth happens through movement, play, perseverance, and encouragement. We celebrate both victories and the attempts that lead to them, helping kids build confidence, overcome challenges, and discover that falling down is just another opportunity to get back up.

We're looking for energetic, dependable, and enthusiastic Coaches who love working with kids, enjoy being active, and want to be part of a team that makes a meaningful difference in our community.

About the Role

As an Octo Ninja Coach, you'll play an important role in creating an exciting, safe, and encouraging environment where kids can develop strength, coordination, confidence, and problem-solving skills.

You'll lead

  • structured ninja classes

  • coach birthday parties

  • supervise Open Gym and

  • participate in camps and special events.

Just as importantly, you'll help maintain the arena, support your teammates, and ensure every family has a positive experience.

We provide curriculum, coaching guidance, and hands-on training to help you develop your skills. You don't need to be a professional ninja athlete, but you should be excited to learn, take initiative, and bring your best energy to every shift.

This is a part-time position ideal for students, athletes, educators, camp counselors, and anyone who enjoys working with children in an active, team-oriented environment.

What You'll Do

  • Coach & Inspire: Lead fun, engaging ninja fitness classes using our structured curriculum, helping participants develop skills, confidence, and a love of movement.
  • Create Memorable Experiences: Coach birthday parties, camps, Open Gym, and special events, keeping kids actively engaged and ensuring families have a great experience.
  • Keep Safety First: Actively supervise participants, inspect equipment and obstacles, reinforce safety rules, and follow established safety procedures.
  • Prepare & Maintain the Arena: Help set up and reset obstacles, organize equipment, maintain clean training areas, and support daily opening and closing responsibilities.
  • Learn & Grow: Review curriculum and training materials, practice coaching techniques, and participate in team training to continually improve your abilities.
  • Work as a Team: Collaborate with fellow coaches and management, communicate clearly, share responsibilities, and step in wherever support is needed.
  • Connect With Families: Communicate positively and professionally with parents, celebrate student progress, and help create a welcoming environment for everyone.
  • Represent Octo Ninja: Participate in community activities, mobile obstacle events, field trips, and other special programs as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with children through coaching, teaching, camps, recreation, gymnastics, sports, or youth programs is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ninja obstacles, parkour, gymnastics, climbing, or similar athletic activities is a plus, but NOT required.
  • A positive, energetic attitude and a genuine enthusiasm for helping kids learn and succeed.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with children, parents, and coworkers.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to arrive prepared and ready to contribute.
  • Willingness to learn new skills, follow structured curriculum, and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Good judgment, patience, and the ability to maintain a safe and encouraging environment.
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset and willingness to support all aspects of arena operations.
  • Ability to comfortably perform the physical activities associated with coaching in an active obstacle training environment.
  • Availability for 3–4 weekday afternoons and one weekend day each week.

You'll Thrive Here If...

  • You love seeing kids accomplish something they didn't think they could do.
  • You understand that being a great coach is about more than athletic ability — it's about patience, encouragement, and helping others grow.
  • You're the kind of person who notices when something needs to be done and takes initiative.
  • You take pride in being dependable and understand that your teammates and students count on you.
  • You can bring enthusiasm and fun while maintaining professionalism, structure, and clear boundaries.
  • You're open to learning, comfortable receiving feedback, and excited to become a stronger coach.
  • You enjoy being part of a collaborative team where everyone contributes to creating a great experience.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Make a Real Impact: Help children develop confidence, resilience, coordination, and skills they'll carry beyond the gym.
  • Stay Active: Trade the traditional desk job for an energetic environment filled with movement, creativity, and fun.
  • Learn New Skills: Receive hands-on coaching guidance and opportunities to develop your abilities in ninja obstacle training, youth instruction, and group leadership.
  • Be Part of a Team: Work alongside people who value collaboration, encouragement, personal growth, and shared responsibility.
  • Consistent Part-Time Hours: Approximately 18–25 hours per week, with opportunities for additional shifts during camps, holidays, and summer programming.
  • Grow With Us: Build valuable experience in coaching, youth development, event operations, and leadership, with opportunities to take on additional responsibilities as your skills develop.
  • Employee Perks: Employee discounts and a referral program.

Ready to Find Your Flow?

You don't need to be the strongest, fastest, or most experienced ninja in the room to make a difference. You just need a great attitude, a willingness to learn, and a genuine passion for helping others succeed.

If you're ready to inspire kids, challenge yourself, and be part of a team that believes growth should be fun, we'd love to meet you.

Apply today and help us build confidence, strength, and smiles, one obstacle at a time!
