What they need

The Notebook & PC Board Memory Module Validation Engineer is responsible for validating DRAM memory solutions used in notebook and desktop PC platforms. This role focuses on SODIMM modules and on board (memory down) DDR/LPDDR designs, ensuring functional correctness, performance margin, reliability, and platform compatibility across consumer and commercial PC systems. The engineer works closely with platform, BIOS, hardware design, and OEM/ODM teams to support robust product launches and high volume manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

Memory Validation & Testing

  • Develop and execute validation plans for SODIMM (DDR4/DDR5) and on board DDR/LPDDR (LPDDR4/LPDDR5) memory designs.

  • Validate memory functionality, performance, and margin on notebook and desktop PC platforms.

  • Perform validation across operating conditions including temperature, voltage, frequency, and power states (boot, sleep, resume, modern standby).

  • Stress memory under real world PC workloads such as OS boot, multitasking, graphics, and compute workloads.

System Level Debug & Root Cause Analysis

  • Debug memory related system issues such as boot failures, stability issues, resume failures, and intermittent errors.

  • Perform root cause analysis involving DRAM devices, PCB layout, signal integrity, power delivery, SPD configuration, and BIOS memory training.

  • Collaborate with BIOS/firmware teams on memory initialization and training tuning.

  • Support internal and customer escalations with clear technical analysis and corrective actions.

Notebook & PC Board Design Support

  • Validate memory designs under thin and light notebook constraints, including limited routing margin, thermal coupling, and power efficiency targets.

  • Review OEM/ODM schematics, layout guidelines, and design trade offs impacting memory quality.

  • Assess interactions between memory, CPU, PMIC, and system power/thermal design.

Tools, Automation & Data Analysis

  • Use lab tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, memory exercisers, and thermal chambers.

  • Develop scripts and automation to improve test efficiency and coverage.

  • Analyze test data to identify trends, weaknesses, and reliability risks.

Quality, Standards & Customer Support

  • Ensure designs meet JEDEC specifications and internal quality requirements.

  • Support memory qualification, platform certification, and factory ramp activities.

  • Provide validation reports, debug summaries, and design feedback to internal teams and customers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

  • 3–7+ years of experience in memory validation, system validation, or PC platform debug.

  • Strong knowledge of DDR4/DDR5 SODIMM and/or LPDDR memory down architectures.

  • Experience working with notebook or desktop PC platforms.

  • Understanding of signal integrity, timing, power integrity, and PCB layout fundamentals.

  • Hands on experience with hardware debug and lab equipment.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with thin and light or ultra mobile notebook designs.

  • Familiarity with low power design and battery life considerations.

  • Experience debugging BIOS/firmware memory training issues.

  • Customer facing experience with OEMs/ODMs.

  • Scripting or automation experience (Python, Bash, Perl).

  • Exposure to client platforms.

Soft Skills

  • Strong ownership and attention to detail.

  • Effective communication across hardware, firmware, and system teams.

  • Ability to manage multiple platforms and schedules.

  • Collaborative mindset in cross functional environments.
