Novell NetWare Administrator

Key responsibilities:

• Install, configure, patch and maintain NetWare 5.x/6.x servers and OES Linux servers.
• Administer eDirectory (NDS): tree design, partitions and replicas, user and group objects, login scripts and time synchronization.
• Manage NSS volumes, trustee rights, file system quotas and print services (NDPS/iPrint).
• Run and test backups and restores (e.g. SMS/TSA-based tools); maintain disaster recovery procedures.
• Monitor server health, performance and logs using ConsoleOne, iManager, NetWare Remote Manager and Monitor.
• Support GroupWise, ZENworks and BorderManager where still in use.
• Troubleshoot client connectivity issues (Novell Client, NCP, IPX/SPX and TCP/IP).
• Enforce security: password policies, access audits and least-privilege rights.
• Plan and execute migrations of data, identities and services to OES, Active Directory, Windows Server or cloud storage.
• Keep documentation, runbooks and network diagrams current.
• Provide Level 2/3 support and mentor junior staff on legacy systems.

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years administering Novell NetWare and eDirectory in a production environment.
• Hands-on experience with NSS, trustee rights, login scripts and NetWare backup/restore.
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and legacy IPX/SPX networking.
• Familiarity with Windows Server and Active Directory.
• Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills.

Preferred qualifications:

• Novell CNE/CNA, or Micro Focus/OpenText OES certification.
• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server administration experience.
• Experience with GroupWise, ZENworks or Identity Manager.
• A completed NetWare-to-OES or NetWare-to-Active Directory migration.
• Scripting skills (Bash, PowerShell or Perl) for automation and data migration.
• Microsoft or Linux certifications (e.g. MCSA, LPIC, SUSE CLA).

Working conditions:

• On-site or hybrid; physical access to server rooms required.
• Occasional after-hours work for maintenance windows and outages.
• On-call rotation for critical system incidents.
