Nurse Graduate Development Programme 2026

Overview: The Nurse Graduate Development Programme aims to provide structured education and learning opportunities for newly qualified nurses within a supportive clinical environment. The programme facilitates the transition from novice to competent practitioner. The programme aims to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence required to deliver safe, effective and person centred care.

Duration: The programme is delivered over a 12 month period.

Rotation: Graduate nurses will rotate with a 5 month placement in a medical and surgical ward and 2 months in a specialist area.

Support: Graduates will be supported by our team of Preceptors, Clinical Facilitators, Clinical Nurse Managers and Clinical Nurse Specialists.

All graduates will attend 1 week induction and have 2 weeks supernumerary during their first placement. Subsequent placements will have two days supernumerary to allow orientation to the new department.

Continuous Professional Development: A comprehensive study day programme is incorporated throughout the year to support ongoing professional development, clinical competence, and evidence-based practice.
