Part-time
We’re open to appointing one person to work all five days, or two people to share the role across the week. So, if you love the sound of the role but can only commit to certain days, we’d still really like to hear from you.
Mini Montesaurs is growing, and we’re looking for a warm, organised and practical person to join our nursery team and help prepare healthy, nutritious meals for our children.
You don’t need to be a professional cook or have worked in a nursery kitchen before.
You might be someone who loves cooking at home, is brilliant at planning and organising family meals, or simply enjoys preparing good food and would like a rewarding role that fits within school hours.
For us, being organised, reliable and confident in the kitchen is more important than having formal catering experience. We can provide training in food hygiene, nutrition, allergies, kitchen procedures, record keeping and all the checks involved in running a nursery kitchen safely.
More than just a kitchen role
Our kitchen is very much part of the nursery.
You won’t be tucked away working on your own all day. You’ll be a familiar face to our children, working alongside our nursery practitioners and very much part of the wider Mini Montesaurs team.
So, while you’ll be confident taking responsibility for keeping the kitchen organised and running smoothly, we’d also love someone who enjoys being around children and being part of a friendly, busy nursery environment.
What the role involves
- Preparing fresh, nutritious and child-friendly meals and snacks
- Planning and organising food preparation throughout the day
- Following healthy-eating guidance for young children
- Safely managing allergies, intolerances and cultural dietary requirements
- Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and well managed
- Completing food-safety checks and kitchen records – we’ll train you in these
- Menu planning, stock rotation and ordering supplies
- Working closely with the nursery team to make sure mealtimes run smoothly
- Being a friendly and familiar part of our children’s nursery day
Who we’re looking for
You don’t need previous nursery or professional kitchen experience.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- Really well organised and able to plan ahead
- Comfortable preparing simple, healthy and nutritious meals
- Reliable and good at managing their time
- Calm and practical in a busy environment
- Warm, friendly and comfortable around young children
- Willing to learn and follow food-safety and allergy procedures
- Happy to take responsibility for their kitchen while also being part of a team
A Food Hygiene Level 2 qualification would be helpful, but isn’t essential – training can be provided.
The successful candidate will be required to complete the appropriate enhanced DBS check as part of our safer recruitment process.
What we offer
- Competitive salary
- 30 days paid holiday, including bank holidays
- Your birthday off every year
- Two weeks off at Christmas
- A shopping day in December
- Ongoing training, including food hygiene and nutrition
- Pension contributions
- School-friendly working hours
- A warm, supportive nursery team and welcoming working environment
If you’re organised, enjoy cooking and like the idea of being part of our nursery community, we’d love to hear from you – even if you’ve never considered working in a nursery kitchen before.
Whether you’re looking for five mornings a week or just a few days that fit around your other commitments, please get in touch and tell us what days you’re available.
