What they need

Job Summary

Howdy!

Pueblo is an 11 year old House Plant store regarded as one of the best in the country, where our motto - 'Enabling Curiosity' - drives everything we do. We have a large indoor and outdoor area, coffee cart and greenhouses that keep our space dynamic and unique. We take a lot of pride in the joy and optimism of our space in hectic times and are looking for someone with a keen eye for detail, but also an optimistic outlook and proficiency in managing a team and communication.

What we're seeking:

An Independent mindset with a drive to work and grow with the owners is essential. Enabling our team at Pueblo to thrive involves both open, positive communication skills and trust in both yourself and our over 20 years combined hands-on experience. Living nearby and understanding current aesthetic trends and the areas of Central Phoenix is essential, as is dealing with a diverse clientele.

Working on a small team for a small business can be challenging if coming from a corporate world, so someone engaged and self-starting with relaxed Type-A personality will thrive best. Owners are in and out of the store often and not hands off, but there are large gaps of time where the shop is left to run with a reliable team - currently just missing someone to help lead with experience and attention to detail. In this role, you will oversee daily store activities, manage a small dedicated team, and ensure an exceptional customer experience.

You will be responsible for maintaining a well-stocked, organized, and visually appealing retail environment while providing expert advice on plant care and our unique regional setting. This position offers an exciting opportunity to combine your retail expertise with your love for outdoor living and gardening.

Duties

  • Lead daily operations, including sales, stocking, merchandising, and customer service to create an inviting shopping environment.
  • Help oversee inventory levels through effective stock control, ordering, and plant identification to ensure product availability and freshness with a dedicated Stockist.
  • Effectively communicate with owners both in person and remote when necessary, including but not limited to text check ins, phone calls, emails etc.
  • Provide knowledgeable assistance to customers on gardening techniques, plant care and interiorscaping.
  • Oversee POS (Point of Sale) systems - Square - and cashiering processes, including cash handling and retail math accuracy. Bank drop offs and maintaining change in a cash drawer 1-2x weekly.
  • Coordinate outdoor work activities such as cleaning the exterior, sidewalk, landscape maintenance, and plant installation projects to maintain Pueblos unique aesthetic appeal.
  • Train and supervise staff on product knowledge, customer service skills, retail basics, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized store environment with attention to merchandising standards and proper stocking procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with customers via phone or in person.
  • 40 hours a week in store required - flexible admin time and reduced time in store as comfort in managing and experience build - leading to slightly hybrid role a few hours a week.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in Operational Management within a nursery or garden center environment with a strong understanding of horticulture principles.
  • Ability to comprehensively analyze data to break down trends such as average sales, discounts, losses, sales numbers of team members and plan weeks/months/seasons accordingly with owners and team.
  • Familiarity with Square POS and Google Workspaces, cashiering procedures, cash handling, and retail math accuracy
  • Strong organizational skills for inventory management and merchandising tasks
  • Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus but not required.
  • Work experience including gardening or landscape maintenance is highly desirable, as is the openness to learn.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting plants or supplies and working outdoors in various weather conditions - including Summers in Phoenix.
  • Customer service-oriented mindset with the ability to handle phone communication professionally.
  • Passion for gardening and outdoor living with a proactive approach to sales growth and team leadership
  • Must have reliable transportation and laptop with proficient skills in common organizational tools and be an organized person yourself.

Perks:

Join us as a Retail Nursery Manager where your expertise will cultivate growth—both in our business and in our community!

  • 15% Tip Share increases pay (Equal to roughly $4600 in 2024)
  • Stated salary range as a bottom floor with increases annually based upon sales performance including but not limited to increased average sale, number of transactions and reductions in losses/sitting product.
  • Pay Weekly
  • 3 Paid weeks PTO
  • Vison/Dental insurance
  • A gentle workload with incredibly kind customers (in my opinion)
  • Coffee Shop in-house.

If you've made it this far, be sure to add a small bit about yourself and experience with Pueblo.

Pay: $52,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
