What they need

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nursery Practioner to join our Earrly Years team in the Pre-Prep and Nursery at Sandroyd. The role is full time, during term times only (approx. 33 weeks per year).

The hours of work are expected to be 8.30am - 12.00pm, Monday to Firday, during term time only.

Sandroyd is an independent, co-educational prep school for day and boarding pupils. We aim to develop children through a combination of a caring and supportive environment with the provision of stimulating opportunities in and out of the classroom.

Our Nursery Practitioner plays an important role in supporting children across the Early Years Foundation Stage. Working closely with nursery and class teachers, you will help create a positive, nurturing environment where every child feels valued, confident and able to thrive.

The successful candidate will support children in small groups, helping them to engage fully in their learning, develop independence, build self-esteem and celebrate their achievements.

Duties

  • To offer an appropriate level of support and stimulation to children in the nursery, taking into account their developmental stage and needs.
  • To help to set up the nursery for the daily programme and ensure that it is safe, clean and tidy at the start and end of each session.
  • As directed by the Head of the Pre-Prep, to act as a key worker to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.
  • To be flexible within working practices of the setting, undertaking other responsible duties where needed, such as domestic tasks, preparation of snack meals, sitting with the children at lunch, and cleansing of equipment.
  • To attend weekly staff meetings in the Pre-Prep.
  • To attend INSET days and to fulfil training requirements, as scheduled by the Head of the Pre-Prep.
  • Undertake duties such as play and lunch supervision, assemblies, afterschool clubs, and parents’ consultations.
  • To advise the Nursery Manager of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
  • To promote positive behaviour from children and to assist in establishing good standards of behaviour throughout the nursery.
  • Accompany children on activities outside the classroom led by other teachers e.g. games/P.E. and swimming
