Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform all essential duties of the Nursery Technician I classification at a consistently proficient level.
  • Independently perform routine and advanced nursery and vegetative cultivation tasks according to established SOPs, work instructions, and crop schedules.
  • Perform cloning and propagation activities while maintaining appropriate plant identification, organization, sanitation, and handling practices.
  • Perform transplanting, watering, feeding, flushing, spacing, topping, pruning, deleafing, plant training, and other assigned crop-care activities.
  • Evaluate assigned plants for visible indicators of stress, pest activity, disease, nutrient concerns, irrigation problems, abnormal growth, or other deviations and promptly escalate concerns to Nursery leadership.
  • Assist with maintaining plant organization through early and late vegetative stages.
  • Assist with preparing and organizing plants for scheduled movement or transition to flower.
  • Verify plant identification and organization before and after plant movement, transplanting, or other significant crop activities.
  • Complete required cultivation and plant records accurately and timely.
  • Identify and report plant-count, identification, labeling, tracking, or documentation discrepancies.
  • Follow established sanitation and biosecurity procedures and recognize conditions that could contribute to contamination, pests, pathogens, viruses, mold, or disease.
  • Inspect tools, equipment, trays, work surfaces, and assigned work areas for appropriate sanitation before use.
  • Assist Nursery leadership with implementation of daily and weekly crop-work plans.
  • Monitor the status of assigned work and communicate potential delays, quality concerns, material shortages, or other issues that may affect the crop schedule.
  • Demonstrate approved work procedures to Nursery Technician I employees and assist with task-specific training when directed by Nursery leadership.
  • Provide technical guidance to less-experienced employees regarding established procedures without independently changing procedures or directing personnel outside assigned authority.
  • Serve as a positive example of appropriate PPE, sanitation, hygiene, plant-handling, documentation, and safety practices.
  • Assist leadership with identifying opportunities to improve workflow, plant handling, organization, sanitation, and efficiency.
  • Follow all approved SOPs and immediately report deviations rather than independently changing established cultivation processes.
  • Protect plant health, quality, traceability, and regulatory compliance throughout assigned activities.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work cooperatively and professionally with employees and leadership.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

The Nursery Technician II may provide task-specific instruction, demonstrate procedures, assist with onboarding or training, and provide workflow support to less-experienced employees when directed by Nursery leadership. These responsibilities do not include independent authority to hire, terminate, discipline, conduct performance evaluations, approve time off, modify schedules, or otherwise exercise supervisory authority on behalf of the Company.

This distinction keeps the Technician II classification meaningfully below the existing Nursery Supervisor role, which currently has direct responsibility for directing employees, assigning work, appraising performance, and disciplinary functions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must meet all company and applicable regulatory requirements for employment in a licensed California cannabis facility.
  • Demonstrated proficiency performing nursery, cultivation, greenhouse, horticultural, or comparable plant-production work.
  • Prior experience performing multiple nursery functions such as propagation/cloning, transplanting, irrigation/watering, pruning, plant training, sanitation, and vegetative plant maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently follow SOPs and complete work with limited direct oversight.
  • Ability to recognize and appropriately escalate plant-health and production concerns.
  • Ability to maintain accurate plant, production, sanitation, and other required records.
  • Ability to demonstrate established procedures and assist with training less-experienced employees.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, dependability, and teamwork.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of nursery and vegetative cannabis cultivation practices.
  • Working knowledge of propagation and cloning procedures.
  • Ability to recognize common indicators of plant stress, pest activity, disease, irrigation issues, or other abnormal plant conditions and escalate them appropriately.
  • Understanding of sanitation, biosecurity, and cross-contamination prevention practices.
  • Ability to organize plants and work according to production schedules.
  • Ability to complete and review routine cultivation documentation for accuracy.
  • Ability to perform work independently within established SOPs and assigned authority.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate tasks and communicate technical instructions to other employees.
  • Sound judgment regarding when issues should be escalated to Nursery leadership.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Duties may require prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and repetitive hand movements; handling plants and cultivation materials; and regular lifting and carrying associated with nursery operations.

The employee must be able to safely work around cultivation lighting, water, growing media, plant material, nutrients, sanitation products, and other materials associated with indoor cultivation and wear required PPE.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in an indoor cannabis cultivation environment and may involve elevated humidity, bright cultivation lighting, water, plant material, pollen, dust, odors, nutrients, sanitation products, and biological plant material.

Employees must comply with all applicable company policies, SOPs, PPE requirements, hygiene and sanitation procedures, safety requirements, and restricted-access protocols.

Compliance Responsibilities

Employees are expected to comply with all company policies, procedures, security requirements, safety programs, and applicable local, state, and federal laws, including regulations governing California cannabis operations.

Equal Employment Opportunity Statement

King City DBW LLC is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type consistent with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

At-Will Employment Statement

Employment with King City DBW LLC is at will. Nothing contained in this job description should be construed as creating an employment contract, express or implied. The Company reserves the right to modify duties, responsibilities, and qualifications as business needs require.
