Nut Former & Cold Heading Setup/Operator

Department: Machine Shop

Position Summary: Operates automatic nut formers that have 5 forming dies and are equipped with automatic feeding mechanisms to precisely sheared to length and progressively form metal wire into dies and special nut products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Set up and operate nut forming machines.
• Adjust specific tooling and transfer fingers at each station.
• Start machine, observes the operation and inspects first run and sample workpiece to ensure machine conforms to specifications.
• Inspects parts using micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools, to ensure compliance with specification.
• Reads blueprint or job order for product specification such as dimensions, tolerance, number or parts to be formed and tooling instruction on type tooling required.
• Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping and following safety regulations.
• Suggest process improvement ideas.
• Evaluate and communicate machine condition or concerns to both maintenance and supervision.

Education and/or Experience: 

• Working experience in a fastener manufacturing environment. ·
• Experience working with high nickel alloys (A286, Wapaloy, Inconel)
• Experience working with multi station National nut forming machines.
• Working knowledge of nut forming machinery and procedures.
• Ability to inspect parts with variety of inspections instruments. Knowledge in the use of SPC.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience or equivalent combination of technical education and experience.

Mathematical skills: Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts and calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, angles, radius, ratios and standard units of measurements. 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

**Position Requirements:**This is a full-time position requiring an 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required depending on production needs. Regular attendance is an essential job function.
