What they need

Location: Multiple sites around Columbus, Nebraska (travel required) · Type: Full-time, exempt · Reports to: Live Production Supervisor

About the role

Lead litter management and windrowing between production cycles, sell poultry litter as fertilizer to area farms, and keep roads, grounds and site access in working order year-round. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will build and manage a team of equipment operators, control costs, and serve as a key contact for customers, working closely with our repair and maintenance and live production teams. We're looking for a calm, decisive leader who sets clear expectations and owns results.

Key responsibilities

  • People leadership: Hire, train, schedule and coach the windrowing crew and equipment operators, including weekend, holiday and evening coverage. Set priorities, conduct reviews and build a safe, accountable culture; partner with HR for onboarding and terminations.
  • Litter and nutrient management: Run windrowing between production cycles; develop and carry out nutrient management plans that meet state and federal requirements; coordinate sampling, hauling and land-application records.
  • Fertilizer sales: Manage sale of poultry litter to area crop producers.
  • Equipment: Operate skid steers, loaders, tractors, windrowers and graders; perform daily maintenance and reporting; clean and disinfect equipment between sites; coordinate major repairs.
  • Exterior facilities: Maintain gravel roads, clear snow for safe site access, and keep grounds mowed and orderly.
  • Safety, costs and records: Enforce safety and biosecurity protocols; manage labor, fuel and supply costs against budget; keep accurate production, sales and compliance records.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+ years in agriculture, livestock or poultry operations, equipment operation or facilities maintenance
  • 2+ years supervising a team, including hiring, training, scheduling and performance management
  • Proven heavy equipment skills and working knowledge of nutrient or manure management
  • Strong communication skills and comfort with email, spreadsheets and mobile apps
  • Willingness to work early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays and an on-call rotation
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record and ability to pass a background check

Preferred

  • Poultry industry and multi-site management experience
  • Knowledge of Nebraska NDEE requirements; manure applicator certification
  • CDL Class A or B; CMMS experience
  • Bilingual English/Spanish (strongly preferred)

Working conditions

Work is indoors and outdoors in all weather, with exposure to dust, ammonia, noise and odor, using required PPE. The role involves extended time in equipment and walking barns, lifting up to 50 lbs, strict biosecurity compliance, and travel between sites on short notice. Hours vary with production cycles, the season and snow events.

Compensation and benefits

$70,000–$80,000 per year based on experience, plus performance bonuses. Benefits include a company vehicle, health, dental and vision insurance, a retirement plan with employer match, and paid time off.
