What they need
About us
Occupational Therapy Helping Children (OTHC) has been providing dynamic and progressive pathways for children, young people and their families for over 30 years. Based in our purpose-built clinic in Frenchs Forest on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, we support more than 500 families through clinic, in-school, in-community and telehealth services across Sydney and Australia-wide.
The majority of our clientele are infant and adolescents between 0 – 14 but with OTHC, support doesn’t stop at 18 — through OTHC Beyond, we work with young adults aged 15–25, because the transition to adulthood shouldn’t mean the end of the OT support that’s working for them. We embrace and celebrate the unique strengths of every child and teen, valuing neurodiversity and fostering an inclusive environment where they can thrive.
About the role
The role of Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing Occupational Therapy services for children and young people, who are delayed in one or more areas of development, whether it be movement, play, eating, writing, focusing at school, making friends, coping with change or participating in sport and extra-curricular activities, as well as those navigating independence, executive functioning, community participation and the transition to study, work and adulthood.
Key responsibilities
Ensure that occupational therapy service delivery embraces family-centred and strength-based philosophies, including identifying challenges to achieve optimal performance, outcomes, and participation
Recommend and assist with the provision of equipment and aids that measure the impact and positive change for individuals
Provide advice and support to parents and carers to foster development outside of the clinic environment to help achieve identified clinic goals
Utilise evidence-based practice and clinical reasoning skills to deliver excellent client-focused assessment and intervention services
Undertake designated administrative and compliance-based tasks necessary to support service delivery and adhere to legislative and funding body requirements and obligations
Identify opportunities to continually improve the quality of care and service delivery to clients
Complete OTHC requirements for CPD as per AHPRA guidelines, including sourcing and sharing learnings back to the OTHC team
Liaise with clients, teachers, schools and pre-schools on a regular basis
Contribute one blog topic and supporting dot-point information on an idea, diagnosis or activity each school term, and work with our Marketing Manager to film one at-home OT activity for families each term to share on social media — our Marketing Manager is on hand to support and help flesh out ideas
