You’ll join a collaborative team that values cultural knowledge, lived experience, clinical expertise and strong relationships to help people living with MJD live well and achieve their goals.

Use your OT skills to make a genuine difference:

  • Meaningful, culturally responsive work – partner with Aboriginal Community Workers, families and cultural advisors
  • Clinical variety and professional growth – combine therapy, assistive technology, NDIS, research and education

About the Role:

The MJD Foundation is seeking an experienced and passionate Occupational Therapist to join its dedicated Therapy Program in Darwin.

You’ll provide specialist occupational therapy to people living with Machado-Joseph Disease (MJD) and related conditions, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support clients and families to achieve their goals and stay stronger for longer.

This is a unique opportunity to work within a strengths-based, evidence-informed and culturally responsive model of care, building enduring relationships with clients, families and Aboriginal Community Workers.

You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute to education, research and resource development, including occasional clinics supporting people living with MJD

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, deliver and evaluate individual and group occupational therapy programs and assessments
  • Work collaboratively with clients, families, Aboriginal Community Workers and cultural advisors
  • Provide specialist advice and clinical justification for equipment and supports through the NDIS
  • Assess and prescribe assistive technology to support independence and quality of life
  • Support NDIS plan development and delivery
  • Build strong and enduring relationships with clients and their families
  • Contribute to research, education, training and resource development
  • Support continuous improvement of clinical services and health outcomes
  • Travel to remote communities by light aircraft and 4WD as required

About You:

You will be an experienced Occupational Therapist who is passionate about person-centred practice, neurological rehabilitation and making a meaningful difference in the lives of clients and families.

You will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy and current AHPRA registration
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a qualified therapist
  • Experience prescribing assistive technology, ideally including wheelchairs
  • Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and cultures
  • A commitment to person, family-centred and cross-cultural practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Desirable:

  • Experience in neurological and/or rehabilitation settings
  • Knowledge of Machado-Joseph Disease and other spinocerebellar ataxias
  • Experience working within the NDIS
  • Knowledge of NT Government and/or NGO services
  • What You Need:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an NT Class C manual driver’s licence
  • Willingness to travel to remote communities
