About ARI Shipping

ARI Shipping is an established international freight forwarder with approximately 40 years in business. We specialize in providing high-touch, personalized service for customers moving international freight, including boats, agricultural and forestry machinery, heavy equipment, project cargo, and other specialized shipments.

We are looking for an experienced Ocean Import/Export Coordinator to join our ocean operations team. This is a hands-on, A-to-Z operations position for someone who understands freight forwarding, communicates exceptionally well, stays organized, and can independently manage customer accounts and complex shipments.

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate international ocean export and import shipments from origin through final delivery
  • Manage RO/RO, breakbulk, project cargo, heavy equipment, machinery, and containerized shipments
  • Coordinate cargo movement with ocean carriers, truckers, terminals, warehouses, overseas agents, vendors, and customers
  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate international shipping documentation
  • Make carrier bookings and monitor cargo movement, schedules, deadlines, and releases
  • Coordinate export customs clearance and related documentation
  • Serve as the dedicated point of contact for assigned customers
  • Provide proactive shipment updates and responsive, high-touch customer service
  • Troubleshoot documentation, transportation, carrier, customs, terminal, and delivery issues
  • Review and approve vendor bills for accuracy
  • Monitor shipment accruals, costs, customer billing, and other file-level financial details
  • Ensure required customer payments are received before cargo is released
  • Maintain organized and accurate shipment files from start to finish
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with assigned customers

What We’re Looking For

  • Prior international freight forwarding operations experience
  • Strong ocean export operations experience
  • Hands-on RO/RO (Roll-on/Roll-off) experience
  • Experience beyond standard FCL/containerized freight
  • Experience with project, breakbulk, heavy equipment, machinery, or other specialized cargo
  • Ability to independently manage international shipments and operational files A-to-Z
  • Strong international shipping documentation knowledge
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong organization and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot shipment issues and take ownership through resolution
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, carriers, vendors, overseas agents, and internal team members

Preferred Qualifications

  • Export customs clearance experience
  • Breakbulk and project cargo experience
  • Experience shipping boats, heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, forestry machinery, or similar cargo
  • Experience with shipment billing, accruals, vendor invoices, and file-level financials
  • Freight forwarding/TMS system experience
  • Spanish language skills (not required but a strong plus!)

Our ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Communicates proactively with customers and business partners
  • Takes ownership of their accounts and shipments
  • Can work independently without extensive day-to-day direction
  • Understands how documentation, transportation, customs, customer service, and shipment financials work together
  • Remains organized while managing multiple customers, deadlines, and shipments
  • Is comfortable troubleshooting complex freight issues
  • Values delivering a premium level of customer service

Benefits

  • Biannual performance bonus program
  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Career and compensation growth opportunities
