What they need
You've spent years learning how offshore wind assets work. How about a career investigating what happens when they don't?
A turbine failure. A damaged subsea cable. A major problem during offshore construction.
Rather than spending months working on the same project, you could be investigating different technical failures, travelling internationally and helping determine how some of the largest losses in the offshore energy sector are resolved.
We're recruiting for a specialist international loss adjusting consultancy looking to bring one or two engineers into its London team.
It's a chance to take the technical knowledge you've developed in offshore wind and apply it in a different way, combining engineering investigation with commercial decision-making and exposure to the international insurance market.
What would change?
Instead of being responsible for the design, construction or operation of an asset, you'd be called in when something goes wrong.
You'll investigate what happened, assess the damage, consider repair options and evaluate the costs involved. You'll work with engineers, contractors, insurers and technical experts, helping clients understand both the technical and financial implications of a loss.
The assignments are international, with opportunities to visit offshore sites and work on complex, high-value claims.
And you're not expected to arrive knowing how insurance works. You'll learn that side of the business from experienced colleagues, gradually taking ownership of your own assignments.
Who would this suit?
You'll probably have around 4–5 years' experience in offshore wind or a closely related sector, perhaps working for an engineering consultancy, developer, operator or offshore contractor.
Your experience might include:
- Offshore wind engineering, design or construction
- Turbine, foundation, subsea cable or substation integrity
- Technical advisory, due diligence or failure investigation
- Offshore installation, marine operations or project engineering
- Asset management, maintenance or reliability engineering
You might be working somewhere like DNV, Ramboll, OWC, Wood or AtkinsRéalis, although the type of work you've done matters far more than the company name.
You'll need an engineering degree, the ability to investigate technical problems and explain your findings clearly, and an interest in understanding the financial consequences of engineering decisions.
No previous insurance or loss adjusting experience is required.
This isn't about abandoning your engineering background. It's about using it to develop a broader career, one involving technical investigation, commercial analysis, international exposure and increasing responsibility.
If you've enjoyed the technical challenges of offshore wind but are wondering what else you could do with your experience, hit apply or DM me.
