Job Description

Brilliant Bilingual is building a select On-Call Substitute Teacher Team to support our growing K–8 Spanish programs throughout Metro Atlanta.

We are seeking experienced, reliable educators who can confidently step into an established classroom when one of our regular teachers is unavailable, follow the provided instructional plan, maintain classroom expectations, and keep the learning experience moving with minimal disruption.

This is an as-needed position with no guaranteed hours. Assignments are offered based on program needs, location, qualifications, and individual availability.

Our substitute pool is intentionally selective. We are looking for educators who are calm under pressure, responsive, classroom-confident, and comfortable working independently.

What This Role Looks Like

Substitute teachers may provide coverage for:

• School-day programs: generally between 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
• After-school Spanish Clubs: generally between 2:00–5:00 p.m.

Assignments may range from a single class to several hours depending on the program.

Substitute teaches can choose from current service areas, which include:

• Buckhead
• South Cobb / Douglas: Smyrna, Lithia Springs
• West / North Cobb: Powder Springs, Marietta, Kennesaw
• South Atlanta: College Park, East Point, East Atlanta, South Fulton

You do not need to be available in every region or every day. Candidates indicate the locations, days, and time periods they can consistently serve.

Ideal substitute candidates are generally available at least 2–3 weekdays and can reliably serve at least one region.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom coverage for K–8 Spanish enrichment and school-day programs
• Follow structured, turnkey lesson plans and use provided materials
• Establish and maintain a strong classroom presence
• Maintain established routines, transitions, and behavioral expectations
• Redirect student behavior calmly and effectively
• Deliver engaging instruction aligned with Brilliant Bilingual standards
• Communicate promptly and professionally regarding assignments
• Arrive prepared and on time
• Follow school-site and Brilliant Bilingual procedures
• Provide brief professional feedback following assignments when requested

QualificationsRequired

• At least 1 year of classroom teaching experience
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage groups of students
• Strong classroom presence and classroom-management skills
• Ability to follow an established lesson plan and instructional structure
• Professional communication and responsiveness
• Reliable transportation to school sites
• Ability to complete the required screening and onboarding process

Preferred

• Spanish proficiency
• Experience teaching K–8 students
• Experience in enrichment or language-learning programs
• Availability for both school-day and after-school assignments

Spanish proficiency is an asset, but our substitute selection process prioritizes classroom command, reliability, communication, and the ability to maintain a productive learning environment. This reflects the established skill hierarchy for the role.

Compensation

$30.00 per hour

This is an on-call position. Hours and assignments are not guaranteed.

• Substitute onboarding/orientation

Only candidates who successfully complete the required screening and onboarding process will be added to the active substitute pool.
