On-Site Reporter

Malaya Business Insight is looking for an On-Site Reporter to join our newsroom and cover events, developments, and stories on the ground. The role involves gathering information, conducting interviews, producing quick and accurate reports, and helping turn on-site coverage into content for our digital and social media platforms.

Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

• Cover news, events, press conferences, launches, community activities, and other assignments on-site

• Conduct interviews with officials, organizers, experts, participants, and other relevant sources

• Gather facts, quotes, photos, videos, and other information for stories

• Write clear, accurate, and timely news reports for digital and print platforms

• Provide real-time updates from the field when needed

• Help develop stories from on-site observations and interviews

• Produce basic mobile-friendly content such as short videos, pictures, and social media updates

• Verify information and sources before publication

• Monitor developments related to assigned stories and provide follow-up reports

• Perform other newsroom duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Broadcast Communications or related fields

• Strong writing and communication skills

• Comfortable approaching and interviewing people

• Able to work independently while coordinating with a newsroom team

• Willing to travel and work on-site for assignments

• Able to work under deadlines and in fast-moving situations

• Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content is an advantage

• Basic photography or video skills are a plus

• Strong attention to accuracy, spelling, grammar, and details

• Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays when required by assignments

We’re looking for someone who is curious, observant, resourceful, and willing to learn. You don't need years of newsroom experience. What matters is your ability to find information, ask good questions, communicate clearly, and stay composed while working in the field.

A strong candidate should also be comfortable with the realities of modern journalism, where a reporter may be expected to gather not just quotes and notes, but also photos, video, and information for digital platforms.
