What they need

Summary Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) is a leading offshore wind developer with a portfolio of projects across Taiwan and Asia. We are seeking an experienced ONS Mechanical Engineer to oversee the mechanical and building services scope of our onshore substations, from engineering and procurement through construction, installation, commissioning and handover.

The scope includes HVAC, fire detection and firefighting systems, drainage, plumbing, lifting and handling equipment, and standby generation and fuel systems where applicable. Working closely with the ONS Package Manager and electrical, civil, structural, SCADA and operations specialists, you will oversee contractor designs and equipment delivery to ensure safe, reliable and maintainable systems that meet project requirements.

Scope Description As a key member of the Synera Renewable Energy team, your role will encompass the following:

  • Oversee mechanical and building services engineering throughout design, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning and handover.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications, design criteria and supplier proposals, supporting tender evaluations and procurement decisions.
  • Review contractor designs, calculations, equipment layouts and documentation for compliance with project requirements, applicable standards and local building and fire regulations.
  • Coordinate interfaces with electrical equipment, civil works, buildings, SCADA and safety systems, ensuring mechanical services are fully integrated into the substation design.
  • Embed safety by design, addressing fire risks, ventilation, equipment handling, safe access, drainage and maintenance requirements.
  • Monitor contractor engineering and equipment delivery progress, identify risks and support resolution of technical queries, changes and non-conformities.
  • Review inspection and test plans, attend equipment factory acceptance tests and support quality inspections during construction and installation.
  • Provide technical oversight during installation and commissioning, verifying system performance, controls and interfaces through site acceptance and integrated testing.
  • Support statutory inspections and approvals in coordination with contractors, permitting teams and relevant authorities.
  • Coordinate with operations teams on maintainability, spares and training, and verify documentation and defect closure for handover.

Qualifications To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, building services engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant qualifications.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in mechanical or building services engineering for substations, power facilities or comparable industrial infrastructure.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, fire detection and firefighting systems, drainage, plumbing and mechanical auxiliary services.
  • Understanding of ventilation, cooling and environmental control requirements for switchgear rooms, transformer areas, control rooms and battery rooms.
  • Experience reviewing mechanical designs, calculations, specifications and equipment layouts, including interfaces with electrical, civil and structural disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience working with EPC/EPCI contractors and equipment suppliers across engineering, construction and commissioning.
  • Practical experience reviewing inspection and test plans, witnessing acceptance tests and resolving technical non-conformities.
  • A strong commitment to HSE, with experience applying safety by design and designing for safe operation and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with applicable mechanical, building and fire safety standards; experience with Taiwanese regulations and approval processes would be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical, communication and coordination skills, with the ability to resolve technical issues and drive actions to completion.
  • Experience in high-voltage substations or grid connection infrastructure would be an advantage.
  • Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken; Mandarin proficiency would be an advantage.
  • Willingness to be based in Taipei and travel to supplier facilities and construction sites as required.
