What they need

Salary: Competitive

Contract: Permanent

Location: Wimbledon Quarter

Affidea UK is in a period of exceptional growth. We have gone from strength to strength, most recently announcing a strategic partnership with LIPS in London. This autumn, we will open our first ambulatory clinic in Southwest London, a major milestone in our mission to bring world-class, accessible healthcare to communities across the UK. Joining us now means being part of this journey from the ground up, with real opportunities to grow as we do.

Located in the Wimbledon Quarter Shopping Centre in Southwest London, our first UK clinic is a 33,000 sq ft ambulatory Clinic bringing together advanced diagnostics, outpatient services and theatres under one roof. Services include a Private GP, an Express Care minor injuries unit, consultant and treatment rooms, multimodality advanced diagnostic imaging (3T MRI, 1.5T MRI, CT, X-Ray and DEXA), surgical theatres and inpatient ward facilities.

About the role

We are looking to recruit an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to join our theatres team, with a competitive salary range on offer depending on experience. You'll deliver skilled, patient-centred perioperative care across anaesthetics, surgery and recovery, supporting patients safely through every stage of their surgical journey with the highest standards of clinical safety and compassion.

By joining us, you'll be part of a dynamic environment that embraces clinical excellence and prioritises a first-class patient experience.

Brilliant opportunity to join us at the very opening of the clinic and play a key role in shaping our theatre service from the ground up.

What will the duties include?

  • Delivering high-quality perioperative care across the anaesthetic, surgical (scrub and circulating) and post-anaesthetic recovery phases.
  • Preparing theatres, equipment and instruments for procedures, and ensuring all equipment is checked, safe and ready for use.
  • Assisting the anaesthetist with induction, airway management, maintenance and reversal of anaesthesia.
  • Monitoring patients' vital signs, recognising changes in condition, and escalating appropriately using clinical judgement.
  • Carrying out surgical safety checks, including the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, swab, instrument and sharps counts, and specimen handling.
  • Maintaining accurate, legible and timely perioperative documentation.
  • Ensuring all care complies with HCPC standards, clinical governance requirements, infection prevention and control procedures, and Clinic policies.
  • Identifying and reporting incidents, safeguarding concerns and potential risks in line with Clinic procedures.

What we need from you?

  • Qualified Operating Department Practitioner with valid HCPC registration (required).
  • Demonstrable experience working in an operating theatre environment (required).
  • Competence in at least one of anaesthetics, scrub or recovery (required).
  • Good understanding of clinical governance, patient safety and evidence-based practice (required).
  • Experience across multiple perioperative areas, or in day-case, orthopaedic or ambulatory surgery (desirable).
