Job description:

The Operations Specialist (OS) is responsible for the smooth operation of Alpha House Family Shelter during their shift. The Operations Specialist provides support to residents and constitutes the first response to emergencies and emergent situations when they arise. Tasks and duties will include providing food and supplies to the residents, maintaining the cleanliness of the shelter, supporting volunteers with information and help when needed, and maintaining a safe and pleasant environment for the residents. Alpha House is a low barrier shelter and has reasonable health and safety rules.

General Responsibilities:

• Maintain an orderly, peaceful, and efficient atmosphere during shift hours.
• Provide residents with any supplies they might need.
• Assist or provide direction to volunteers engaging in service projects.
• Put out food for self-serve or help to put away food into containers or in the appropriate place.
• Perform janitorial tasks as needed (e.g. mopping kitchen floor, bathrooms, etc.)
• Utilize and follow written policies and procedures and obtain help from the on-call case manager or Director of Operations.
• Communicate regularly with service team, and Director of Operations, and report any incidents or reoccurring problems with family behavior. Document all incidents related to families and/or volunteers.
• Answer phone calls as well as occasional administrative/computer tasks.
• Clean and prepare rooms for the next family.
• Provide emergency response when needed and manage emergent incidents.

Minimum Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work unsupervised. A history of reliability in the workplace is required. This includes arriving on time and being flexible. Engaging, easygoing personality that can interact with a variety of people. Previous work experience with diverse populations, crisis management is a plus. A valid driver’s license, a good driving record and be deemed insurable to drive by the organization’s liability insurance carrier. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

Experience:

• Customer service: 1 year (Required)

License/Certification:

• Driver's License (Preferred)
