What they need

The role

We’re looking for an Operational Performance Officer to work across Jellyfish Energy and help us make sure the business is operating as well as it should be.

This is a hands-on performance role.

You won’t belong to one individual operational department. Instead, you’ll work across the business, regularly checking how teams are performing, understanding where things are getting stuck and helping management address issues quickly.

We want someone who can look beyond a KPI on a spreadsheet and understand what is actually happening behind it.

You’ll spend time with teams including Operations, Customer Service, Billing, Credit Control, Disconnections, Sales and Finance, reviewing performance, looking at workloads and processes, speaking to the people doing the work and helping identify where we can improve.

When something needs additional attention, you’ll also be able to step in as part of a short-term taskforce, helping the team get the situation under control and making sure agreed actions are delivered.

What you’ll be doing

● Regularly reviewing operational performance across the business.

● Working with department heads to understand their KPIs, workloads, risks and priorities.

● Carrying out regular operational check-ups across different teams.

● Maintaining clear RAG reporting across departments and key business activities.

● Monitoring service levels, productivity, backlogs, turnaround times, quality and other

operational measures.

● Looking at both team and individual performance where appropriate.

● Identifying teams or processes that are beginning to fall behind.

● Understanding why performance has changed rather than simply reporting that it has.

● Checking that agreed processes and controls are actually being followed.

● Identifying bottlenecks, duplication, unnecessary manual work and inefficient processes.

● Following up actions with managers and ensuring issues aren’t allowed to drift.

● Helping management prioritise operational problems based on their actual business impact.

● Supporting departments that need additional short-term help.

● Joining or leading focused taskforces where we need to resolve a specific operational issue.

● Helping establish recovery plans for areas that are underperforming.

● Tracking those plans through to completion.

● Escalating material performance issues to senior management.

● Providing concise weekly and monthly updates on operational performance.

● Feeding information into wider board and business performance reporting.

● Identifying recurring problems and recommending permanent fixes rather than temporary

workarounds.

● Helping Jellyfish develop better ways of measuring operational performance.

What we’re looking for

You might currently work in operations, performance, project management, PMO, business improvement, quality, compliance or another role where you have to understand whether a business is performing properly.

You don’t need to come from the energy industry.

You do need to be:

● Highly organised.

● Confident dealing with different teams and personalities.

● Comfortable asking questions and challenging people appropriately.

● Able to quickly understand how a team or process works.

● Interested in both numbers and people.

● Comfortable working with KPIs and management information.

● Able to identify the difference between a one-off problem and a genuine performance issue.

● Persistent when actions need following through.

● Comfortable moving between different areas of the business.

● Practical and solutions-focused.

● Able to communicate problems clearly without overcomplicating them.

● Comfortable working directly with senior management.

You’ll need good Excel and reporting skills, although this role is less about being a pure data analyst and more about understanding and improving operational performance.

The type of person we want

This role will suit someone who naturally notices when things don’t look right.

If a team has suddenly developed a backlog, you’ll want to know why.

If a KPI has been red for three weeks, you’ll want to know what is being done about it.

If everyone says a process works well but the numbers say otherwise, you’ll go and understand what is actually happening.

And importantly, you won’t stop at producing a report.

We want someone who will help turn the information into action.

The objective is simple: help us keep every part of Jellyfish performing properly and step in quickly when it isn’t.

Pay: £25,420.00-£35,000.00 per year
