About the Opportunity
Our client, a private equity firm in New York City, is seeking an Operations Analyst to support the operations, valuation and reporting needs of its registered investment funds. The role offers exposure to many parts of the business, including support for broader private equity operations. The team is long-tenured, and the firm offers a strong quality of life. The position is based in New York City and requires four days per week in the office.
Job Responsibilities
- Support fund-level investment accounting through the investment book of record (IBOR) process, keeping accurate records of the funds’ underlying private equity holdings and activity
- Process capital calls and distributions accurately and on time, reviewing weekly transaction activity booked from notices
- Tie out investment positions, cash and unfunded commitments against records held by sub-administrators and custodians, and resolve breaks
- Keep portfolio company data current across internal systems and reporting tools
- Assist with fair value determinations under each fund’s valuation policies, including quarterly valuation support
- Forecast fund cash and unfunded commitment levels to support capital call funding, including any credit facility use
- Support closings of new fund investments, including documentation review and coordination with counterparties
- Support marketing for the registered funds by updating collateral, securing compliance approval and working with the distributor on its use
- Assist with periodic repurchase and tender offers, including liquidity planning
- Produce scheduled and ad hoc internal reporting, including portfolio performance, and analyze quantitative data to support business improvement
- Coordinate with sub-administrators, custodians and other vendors on timely, accurate payment of fund expenses, including weekly expense packages
- Assist with SEC filings, shareholder reports, audit deliverables and quarterly board materials
Job Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, economics or business management
- 2+ years in accounting or operations within alternative investments, preferably from public accounting, a private equity firm, a hedge fund or a fund administrator
- Working command of US GAAP as applied to investment companies (required)
- Preference for candidates who have worked with 1940 Act registered funds
- Excellent Excel skills are required
- Hands-on experience with a private equity fund accounting platform strongly preferred, covering entering transactions, maintaining portfolio data and producing reports
- Practical grounding in private equity fund accounting: partners’ capital allocations, unfunded commitments, recallable capital, distributions and capital calls
- Proficiency in Python and AI language-model tools is a plus
- Solid grasp of financial statements; strong written and verbal communication
- Strong work ethic, organization and resourcefulness; a team player and self-starter who works independently with limited supervision
- Interest in private equity and a basic grasp of the financial markets
The annual total compensation is up to $140,000. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
