What they need

Location: Kaipātiki, Auckland
Type: Part-time (20 hours per week), Individual Employee Agreement
Application Deadline: 5pm Monday 14 September

Are you an experienced people‑leader who thrives in a dynamic, purpose‑driven environment? Do you enjoy bringing structure, clarity, and momentum to teams and projects? We’re looking for an Operations & Team Manager to help strengthen our organisation and support the delivery of high‑impact ecological restoration and community programmes across the Kaipātiki local board area of the North Shore, Auckland.

This is a 20‑hour per week role ideal for someone who excels at team leadership, project oversight, financial accountability for their team’s work, and organisational reporting. Ecological expertise is not required — what matters most is your ability to keep people, projects, and systems running smoothly.

About the Role

As our Operations & Team Manager, you’ll manage a team of up to 6 people, oversee project delivery, manage team‑level budgets, and contribute to strategic discussions at the leadership table. You’ll help ensure our work is well‑planned, well‑coordinated, and well‑reported — enabling our team to deliver meaningful environmental outcomes for the Kaipatiki environment and community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support staff, ensuring clear priorities, workflows, and expectations
  • Oversee project planning, delivery, and reporting
  • Manage team and project budgets, ensuring accurate tracking and accountability
  • Work with the Finance Manager to provide budget information, forecasts, and reporting inputs
  • Prepare performance and project reports for the Chief Executive, Board, and funders
  • Maintain oversight of contracts, grants, and compliance requirements
  • Support continuous improvement of systems, processes, and organisational capability
  • Provide light‑touch stakeholder support when needed (not a core focus)

Health & Safety

  • Ensure organisational health and safety systems are implemented consistently across projects
  • Support staff to identify, manage, and report risks and incidents
  • Maintain oversight of H&S documentation, training, and compliance
  • Promote a safe working culture for staff, volunteers, and visitors

About You

You’ll bring strong leadership, organisational capability, and confidence working across multiple projects and priorities. You’re comfortable with budgets and reporting at a team level, and you enjoy helping people work effectively. You’re collaborative, reliable, and able to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience managing people and teams
  • Strong project management and coordination skills
  • Experience managing team or project budgets
  • Excellent organisational and planning abilities
  • Confident communicator who contributes well at a leadership level
  • Ability to work independently within a part‑time structure

Desirable

  • Experience in community, environmental, or not‑for‑profit organisations
  • Familiarity with funder reporting or contract management
  • Experience improving systems or organisational processes

Why Join Us?

You’ll be part of a committed, values‑driven organisation making a real difference for Auckland’s natural environment. You’ll work with a passionate team, contribute to meaningful outcomes, and help strengthen the systems and leadership that support our community ecological restoration work.

Applications close at 5pm on Monday 14 September
