PlantCare is a progressive and rapidly growing office planting business with an established reputation across London and the South West.

With 50 year's experienced behind us, we are entering into an exciting phase of our journey; scaling up throughout the UK and extending our reach into Europe, and to help us deliver our ambitions there is a requirement for an Operations Director who is hungry to play a significant part in growing the business by a 3-4 x multiple over the next 5 years. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to join to ensure a smooth operation on this growth journey.

We're looking for someone who has experienced operations within a £20m - £80m business and knows what it takes to introduce the structure, processes, systems and leadership capability to scale successfully. What’s important to us is drive, energy and somebody that can "Get Stuff Done".

You will join the management team to take leadership of an operation of approximately 60 people, spanning Assembly, Despatch, Purchasing, Maintenance, IT and QSHE & FM.

You could come from office fit-out, workplace services, facilities services, interiors or another operationally complex service environment. What's important is that you've seen scale, know what great looks like and the journey we are on excites you. It isn't only about maintaining what already exists, it's about helping us build what comes next.

The opportunity

Reporting to the UK Managing Director

Working with the Heads of Department team, you'll create an increasingly scalable, efficient and commercially focused operation.

Help us build an operational platform capable of supporting a business 3-4 x times its current size, without losing the quality, agility and exceptional customer experience that have made PlantCare successful. You'll have the freedom and backing to challenge how things are done, introduce better ways of working and build the operational capability we need for the future.

What you'll be here to do:

Drive operational excellence

You'll continually look for opportunities to improve efficiency, profitability and performance without compromising the quality of our maintenance, installations or customer experience.

You'll challenge existing processes and supplier arrangements when there's a better way and ensure lessons from major projects translate into better pricing, planning, resourcing and delivery next time.

Build the infrastructure behind growth

Create clear, repeatable and scalable processes that enable PlantCare to grow confidently across the whole of the UK.

You'll help us anticipate what comes next, considering capacity, people, logistics, fleet, storage, systems and future depot requirements before growth creates the need.

From Assembly and Despatch through to Maintenance, Purchasing, IT, QSHE, facilities, logistics and fleet, you'll ensure the infrastructure behind PlantCare develops ahead of the business.

This will include supporting future expansion such as our planned additional depots and ensuring systems and IT evolve to support a significantly larger organisation.

Be a true partner to the UK MD

As a member of the management team, you'll contribute beyond operations. You'll help shape business strategy, support budgeting and commercial decision-making, and act as a trusted senior partner to the UK Managing Director.

What we're looking for

We're particularly interested in talking to experienced Operations Directors and senior operational leaders who have already experienced the challenges that come with scale.

You'll ideally bring:

• Senior operational leadership experience within a £20m - £80m business
• A track record of successfully scaling, transforming or professionalising operations
• Experience leading multiple operational functions through senior managers or Heads of Department
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, with an understanding of margin, cost, productivity and profitability
• Experience developing meaningful KPIs and using data to drive better business decisions
• A strong understanding of scalable systems, processes and operational controls
• Experience improving supplier, procurement, logistics or resource performance
• The ability to challenge established thinking and introduce smarter ways of working
• Experience coaching managers, increasing accountability and building high-performing teams
• The confidence, judgement and commercial credibility to operate alongside an MD and senior management team

Most importantly, you'll combine strategic thinking with a bias for action.
