Operations Engineer

Description:

The Operations Engineer shall Monitor and analyze daily production data, daily operations of the Slitter and the Pipe Mill and work with all related teams to maintain/improve production. Evaluate, select, and apply standard and well defined engineering techniques, procedures and criteria while managing field personnel to optimize production performance.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are normal for office and manufacturing environment; hot when weather is hot and cold when weather is cold. Greasy, dirty and noisy environment. Work involves lifting, pulling and/or pushing of materials and product up to 30 pounds. Standing and walking considerable distances. Operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hardhats.

1. Qualifications:

1.1. A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of two years of experience in manufacturing or related engineering field is a plus.

1.2. Advanced reading, writing, design and arithmetic skills required working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Auto CAD and Inventor and/or similar 3d Design Programs.

1.3. Ability to motivate and communicate effectively with subordinates and associates; assess situations and resolve potential problem areas of conflict, Strong communications skills. Team oriented.

1.4. Employee must be able to work with a flexible schedule which may require over-time and weekend when necessary.

1.5. Knowledge in Lean/6 Sigma Production Methodology and 5S.(Preferred)

2. Responsibilities:

2.1. Apply knowledge of principles, practices and procedures for production and problem solving.

2.2. Effectively manage the production process through mistake proofing, process monitoring and visualization.

2.3. Responsible for continuously monitoring the Plant KPI’s to ensure balanced operation rates and optimum operations.

2.4. Develop and implement improvement plans to minimize production losses and optimize field performance.

2.5. Monitor and adjust production processes or equipment to ensure quality production and productivity.

2.6. Ensure adherence to all applicable regulations, policies and procedures for health, safety and environmental compliance.

2.7. Support production operation team management to meet schedule, quality and cost expectations.

2.8. Write and modify SOPs for safe and effective equipment operation.

2.9. Supports HSE-related programs that will increase awareness and promote a safety culture.

3. Activities:

3.1. Work closely with departments for process improvement and product quality assurance.

3.2. Plan and organize the daily production activities.

3.3. Work with the Operations and other support staff to develop and implement improvements related to production flow, tooling, facilities, material and product overall quality.

3.4. Influence and guide the Operations Team in the establishment of priorities, planning and the implementation of the on-going work.

3.5. Investigates quality defects, find root causes; and works to improve manufacturing system efficiency.

3.6. Other duties as assigned.

4. Authority and Obligation:

4.1. This position has the authority to stop plant operations if he deems it necessary, for reasons of possible quality and equipment damage.
