What they need
Operations Manager
Location: Market Rasen, Lincolnshire
Job Type: Full-time
Industry: Agricultural Hardware, Automotive Parts & Industrial Power Solutions | National Distribution – UK & ROI
About Us
With over 30 years of industry expertise, Equip Global Supplies Ltd (EGS) is a rapidly growing business based in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire supplying customers throughout the UK and ROI.
Alongside our established agricultural hardware and automotive parts retail operation, we have developed a growing specialist national distribution business, with a particular strength in industrial, automotive and commercial battery and parts solutions.
We also operate a fully equipped fabrication workshop and provide rapid hydraulic hose repair and replacement services, bringing together a broad range of products, technical knowledge and specialist services under one roof.
As the business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced and proactive Operations Manager to help drive the day-to-day performance of the business, improve operational efficiency within our customer service team, warehouse’s and other operational systems whilst ensuring our customers continue to receive the high level of service EGS is known for.
The Role
This is a varied, hands-on position with responsibility for overseeing the smooth running of our warehouse, logistics, stock control, order fulfilment and customer service operations.
You will act as an important link between our warehouse, retail, sales, accounts and customer service functions, ensuring that orders move efficiently through the business and that customers receive clear communication, accurate information and prompt resolutions when issues arise. An attitude of getting stuck in with the tasks is essential with lots of manual handling across a range of goods including many which are substantially heavy. This getting stuck in is something we expect in all staff especially as we are growing.
A key part of the role will be overseeing the customer journey from initial enquiry through to dispatch and aftersales support. This will include helping the team manage customer enquiries, delivery queries, stock availability, returns, collections and any service issues that require escalation.
You will also retain oversight of our warehouse and logistics operation, including incoming deliveries, national dispatches, stock accuracy, retail replenishment and waste battery collections.
Just as importantly, this role will play a central part in helping EGS prepare for its next stage of growth. The successful candidate will be expected to learn and understand our existing protocols, procedures and systems, before identifying practical opportunities to improve how different areas of the business operate.
This will involve reviewing current workflows, identifying areas of inefficiency or unnecessary duplication, and helping to implement new processes, systems and working practices that streamline day-to-day operations and make the business more structured, scalable and efficient.
We pride ourselves on being responsive and willing to go the extra mile for our customers. The successful candidate will therefore be someone who is comfortable taking ownership, solving problems and stepping into different areas of the business when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day operational running of the business, ensuring departments work together efficiently and priorities are managed effectively.
- Customer Service Management: Lead and support the customer service function, ensuring enquiries, delivery queries, returns, complaints and account issues are dealt with professionally and promptly.
- Order Fulfilment: Oversee the complete order process from receipt through to picking, dispatch, delivery and aftersales support.
- Warehouse & Logistics: Manage warehouse activity, incoming goods, customer collections and outbound UK & ROI shipments through our courier and transport partners.
- Stock & Inventory Control: Maintain high levels of stock accuracy through cycle counts, stock audits and effective use of our stock management system.
- Retail Stock Replenishment: Ensure our retail store remains well stocked through effective coordination between warehouse and shop-floor teams.
- Battery Operations: Oversee the correct storage, stock rotation, refresh charging, labelling and dispatch preparation of our automotive, commercial and industrial battery ranges.
- Waste Battery Collections: Coordinate collections from customers throughout the UK, using approved transport partners and arranging direct collections where appropriate.
- Customer Escalations: Take ownership of more complex customer queries and resolve issues in a way that protects both the customer relationship and the commercial interests of the business.
- Team Coordination: Help organise workloads across operational and customer-facing teams, ensuring responsibilities are clear and deadlines are met.
- Service Standards: Monitor and improve the level of service customers receive across telephone, email, retail and distribution channels.
- Process & Systems Development: Learn and understand existing company procedures and systems, then identify and implement practical improvements to workflows, processes and internal communication.
- Continuous Improvement: Review how different departments work together, reduce duplication and unnecessary delays, and help introduce more efficient ways of working.
- Systems Implementation: Support the rollout of new software, operational tools and procedures, helping ensure they are understood, adopted and used effectively across the business.
- Growth Preparation: Help create stronger operational structures and more consistent working practices that can support the continued expansion of EGS.
- Courier & Transport Management: Oversee third-party courier bookings, delivery performance and logistical issues.
- Key Account Support: Work closely with important trade and national customers to ensure their operational and service requirements are met.
- Health & Safety: Help ensure warehouse and operational activities are carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures and relevant legislation.
- Management Reporting: Provide management with visibility over operational issues, stock discrepancies, customer service trends and areas requiring attention.
Systems, Processes & Continuous Improvement
A major part of this position will be helping EGS become more efficient and structured as the business continues to grow.
The successful candidate will be expected to first take the time to understand how the business currently operates, including our established procedures, systems and internal processes.
From there, you will work closely with management and the wider team to identify areas where improvements can be made and help implement practical solutions.
This may include:
- Learning and understanding existing operational protocols and procedures
- Reviewing workflows across warehouse, logistics, stock control and customer service
- Identifying inefficiencies, duplication and bottlenecks
- Helping introduce new systems and procedures
- Improving communication and handovers between departments
- Developing clearer processes for order handling, stock movements and customer queries
- Helping standardise working practices across the business
- Supporting the implementation of new software and operational tools
- Monitoring new processes and making further improvements where required
- Helping build an operational structure capable of supporting continued national growth
The aim is not to change processes simply for the sake of change, but to understand what already works well and identify where practical improvements can help the business operate more effectively.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone with a strong operational mindset who is equally comfortable managing people, dealing with customers and solving practical day-to-day problems.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience in operations management, customer service management, logistics, warehousing, distribution or a similar role
- Experience within automotive parts, industrial supplies, agricultural products, batteries, trade distribution or a similar environment would be highly advantageous
- Strong customer service skills with the confidence to deal with queries, complaints and commercially sensitive situations
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
- The ability to manage several priorities at once and make decisions in a fast-moving environment
- Experience supervising or coordinating a team
- A good understanding of stock control, warehousing and order fulfilment
- Experience improving processes, introducing new systems or helping a business become more efficient and structured
- The ability to understand existing ways of working before making practical and well-considered improvements
- A continuous-improvement mindset with the confidence to challenge inefficient processes where appropriate
- Confidence using stock management systems, Microsoft Excel, email and courier booking platforms
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across different departments
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a willingness to get involved when required
- A good understanding of workplace health & safety
- A full UK driving licence essential
- A full counterbalance licence essential
- A full reach truck licence essential
What We Offer
- A competitive salary and package
- A stable and growing working environment backed by more than 30 years of industry experience
- A key management position within an ambitious and expanding business
- The opportunity to help shape the operational structure of EGS as our national distribution business continues to grow
- The freedom to identify improvements and help implement systems and processes that make a genuine difference
- Ongoing training and development
- The opportunity to work across retail, national distribution, logistics and customer service rather than being restricted to one area of the business
- The chance to make a genuine impact within a growing, independent business
