What they need

Overview

The Dew Drop Inn is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and hands-on Operations Manager to join our leadership team. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Operations Manager plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient day-to-day operation of the Dew Drop Inn.

This position oversees all operational activities outside of the office, including food safety and regulatory compliance, procurement, inventory management, menu planning, facility operations, and the coordination of staff and volunteers. The Operations Manager will lead, schedule, support, and train our operations team while creating a positive, respectful, and team-oriented workplace.

We are looking for someone who is an organized and confident leader, enjoys working in a fast-paced community environment, and understands the importance of treating everyone with dignity, respect, compassion, and empathy. The ideal candidate will be someone who leads by example, takes initiative, works well with others, and is committed to making a meaningful difference in our community.

If you are passionate about community service, enjoy leading a team, and want to be part of an organization where everyone deserves a good meal with no judgment and no questions asked, we would love to hear from you.

Duties

  • Coordinate and oversee all day-to-day operational activities within the Dew Drop Inn facility.
  • Ensure the facility is maintained in good operating order, emphasizing cleanliness and tidiness across all areas.
  • Conduct and document regular maintenance checks on all kitchen equipment, including daily monitoring and recording of fridge and freezer temperatures for Thunder Bay District Health Unit compliance.
  • Apply and adhere to all policies and procedures established by the Board of Directors, as communicated by the Executive Director.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all organizational, staff, and patron information.
  • Manage all staff scheduling to ensure adequate daily coverage, coordinating around staff vacations.
  • Provide necessary training and guidance to operations staff and volunteers, ensuring strict adherence to safe food handling, health and safety, and best cleaning practices.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and the Finance & Administration Officer during the employee onboarding process.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for all staff, volunteers, and patrons while on the premises, documenting and reporting all incidents of concern.
  • Plan, lead, and accurately record minutes for bi-monthly staff meetings.
  • Develop and create suitable, nutritious menus and meals, and oversee their consistent execution by the operations team and volunteers.
  • Develop standardized recipes when necessary and clearly communicate proper execution methods to all kitchen staff and volunteers.
  • Manage inventory and purchasing of food and supplies, ensuring all expenditures remain within the approved budget.
  • Monitor inventory levels closely to ensure timely use of all purchased items and food donations, maximizing resources during menu planning.
  • Work cooperatively with community partners, food donors, suppliers, and volunteers to consistently provide high-quality meals to patrons, operating with dignity; everyone deserves a good meal with no judgment and no questions asked.
  • Assist the Executive Director with food rescue efforts through partners such as Second Harvest.

Requirements

  • 2–3 years of management experience in operations, food service, hospitality, nonprofit, or a similar leadership role.
  • Previous experience supervising, scheduling, training, and supporting staff and volunteers.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety practices and applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Food Handler Certification required
  • Experience with inventory management, purchasing, ordering, and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a busy environment.
  • Ability to lead by example and create a positive, respectful, and team-oriented workplace.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, patrons, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, take initiative, and make sound decisions independently.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and adapting to changing operational needs.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit or community-based organization is considered an asset.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, or special events as required.
  • A valid Class G driver's licence and access to reliable transportation would be considered an asset.

Come be part of the Dew Drop Inn team, where every day is an opportunity to make a difference in someone's life.
