What they need
Overview
Position Summary
Rogerson Aircraft Equipment Group (RAEG) is seeking a hands-on Operations Manager to lead daily manufacturing execution. This person will turn customer requirements and backlog into workable production plans, resolve obstacles with the team, and drive conforming products out the door on schedule.
The right candidate brings a constructive attitude, sound judgment, and the backbone to address problems directly. They are comfortable on the production floor, take ownership of commitments, and develop people and processes rather than relying on last-minute expediting. They will learn how RAEG builds and repairs its products, strengthen coordination among planning, purchasing, production, engineering, and quality, and build a team that can execute consistently.
Core Responsibilities
Production and shipment execution
- Own the daily and weekly production schedule for OEM products, spares, and repairs, with clear priorities tied to customer commitments and monthly shipment goals.
- Review backlog, work in process, material availability, labor capacity, and open quality or engineering issues to establish achievable shipment dates.
- Lead daily production and shortage reviews. Assign owners and due dates to schedule-affecting issues, follow through to resolution, and escalate risks early.
- Identify the specific actions needed to complete and ship each priority order, including parts, outside processing, assembly, testing, inspection, and documentation.
- Track plan versus actual performance and communicate shipment-date changes promptly and accurately.
Planning, purchasing, and process discipline
- Work closely with planners and buyers to maintain accurate line-of-balance, shortage, and production reports in Visual and related tools.
- Ensure material requirements are identified early, purchase orders and supplier commitments support the schedule, and shortages have clear recovery plans.
- Improve the handoffs between customer orders, bills of material, purchasing, work orders, production, inspection, and shipment.
- Establish practical operating routines, standard work, and performance measures that make priorities and constraints visible to the team.
- Identify recurring causes of delays and implement lasting improvements to scheduling, material flow, labor utilization, and throughput.
Floor leadership and team development
- Spend time on the floor understanding how each product family is assembled, tested, repaired, and released. Learn the critical operations, skills, equipment, and common constraints.
- Direct the work of production technicians and assigned operations staff, balancing workload and adjusting resources as priorities change.
- Train and coach employees on schedules, work instructions, reporting, accountability, and escalation expectations.
- Build cross-training plans to reduce dependence on individual employees and improve coverage across product lines.
- Set clear expectations, address performance issues promptly and respectfully, and create a team culture focused on ownership, cooperation, and getting work completed.
Quality, safety, and cross-functional resolution
- Partner with Quality and Engineering to resolve manufacturing issues while maintaining required product conformity, traceability, testing, and release standards.
- Ensure production activities follow approved drawings, work instructions, quality requirements, repair station procedures, and safety practices.
- Lead cross-functional problem-solving when material, technical, supplier, staffing, or quality issues threaten delivery.
- Support cost and process improvements without compromising safety, regulatory requirements, or product quality.
- Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance operational efficiency and support business growth objectives.
- Lead, motivate, and supervise teams across various departments to achieve performance targets.
- Oversee profit and loss responsibilities, ensuring financial health through effective cost management and revenue generation strategies.
- Coordinates manufacturing resources
- Overall responsibility for meeting monthly/quarterly shipment goals and delivering on-time shipments as ordered, including repairs.
- Manages daily schedules of Technicians and indirect staff, and ensures productivity goals are met.
- Develops and executes cost reductions with normal purchasing requirements.
- Leads resources (quality, engineering, production planning, and procurement) in the timely resolution of manufacturing and quality issues and delivery.
- Identifies and implements cross-training opportunities.
- Ensures all activities are performed safely. and creates a quality product.
- Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget parameters.
- Drive process improvement initiatives by analyzing workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing innovative solutions
- Supervise daily operations, including resource allocation, scheduling, and quality assurance to maintain high service standards.
Qualifications
- Significant experience leading aerospace or similarly regulated, low-volume/high-mix manufacturing operations; experience with electromechanical products strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ownership of production schedules, material shortages, on-time delivery, and shipment execution.
- Strong working knowledge of production planning, purchasing, bills of material, work orders, capacity planning, and MRP/ERP systems. Experience with Visual is a plus.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and understand assembly, test, inspection, and repair workflows.
- Experience leading technicians and developing team capability through training, cross-training, and clear performance expectations.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 and applicable FAA/EASA repair station requirements; DCMA experience is a plus.
- Strong communication and follow-through, including the ability to challenge assumptions, make decisions, and escalate risks with a proposed solution.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations, or a related field preferred; substantial relevant manufacturing leadership experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
