What they need

About Wood Grain Junkie

We design and build router tools and accessories for woodworkers who care about the craft. Most of what we sell is made in-house on our own CNCs, lasers, and woodworking equipment and we ship it to makers across the country through our various sales channels like Shopify and Amazon. We're family-run, growing fast, and hold ourselves to a high standard.

The Role

Build the system. Own the operation. Grow with us.

This is the most important hire we've made. You'll be the owner's right hand and the person who turns a hands-on shop into a business that runs like clockwork. You'll build processes that don't exist yet, keep production and fulfillment moving as one team, and make sure we never run out of anything on any channel.

If you like ownership more than titles, and building more than maintaining, read on.

What You'll Own

Build the Operating System

  • Design, document, and roll out SOPs across production, inventory, fulfillment, and receiving
  • Own a weekly ops scorecard: stock-outs, order accuracy, ship time, FBA in-stock rate, production output, cost per unit
  • Run the rhythm: daily team touchpoints, weekly huddles, and a monthly numbers review with the owner
  • Choose and implement tools that fit a small team and scale with us

Purchasing & Vendors

  • Full purchasing authority within budget for materials, hardware, packaging, and supplies, with the owner looped in on big decisions
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and minimums to protect margins
  • Set reorder points and safety stock for everything, from raw materials to boxes, labels, and inserts
  • Track vendor lead times, quality, and reliability, and keep backup sources for critical items

Inventory, Ecommerce & Pricing

  • Keep one source of truth for inventory, synced daily across our various sales channels and reconciled against physical counts
  • Forecast demand around launches, promotions, Prime Day, and Q4, so we avoid both stock-outs and over-buying
  • Know the true cost of every SKU and bring pricing recommendations backed by real margin data

Production & Team

  • Plan production schedules around demand, inventory, and launches
  • Lead the production and fulfillment team with clear goals, regular feedback, and cross-training so people can cover for each other
  • Build onboarding with a real 30/60/90 plan, and help hire as we grow

Fulfillment & Amazon FBA

  • Make sure every order ships complete, correct, and on time
  • Own FBA: replenishment shipments, restock planning, inventory health, and reimbursement claims

You'll Also

  • Support the owner on wholesale and retail pitches by building the operational side of each deal
  • Sync with marketing so inventory is ready before ads go live
  • Learn our products and woodworking hands-on, because you can't run a maker business without understanding makers

What We're Looking For

Must Have

  • 3+ years in operations at a product-based business, ideally manufacturing, ecommerce, or consumer goods
  • You've built systems from scratch, not just followed them
  • Strong inventory, purchasing, and vendor negotiation experience
  • Comfortable with numbers: costs, margins, budgets, and forecasting
  • Experience leading or coordinating a team
  • Equally at home on the shop floor and on a vendor call
  • No ego. You'll pack a box or sweep the floor when that's what the day needs.

Big Plus

  • Amazon Seller Central and FBA experience
  • Multichannel inventory across Shopify, Amazon, and Etsy
  • Small business or startup background
  • Maker, woodworking, or DIY experience, or a genuine drive to learn

Why Wood Grain Junkie

  • Real ownership and real authority from day one
  • Direct line to the owner, with no management layers
  • Products you can hold in your hands, built for people who love the craft
  • The chance to build the operation you'd want to run

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Paid time off

Application Question(s):

  • Describe a process you built or documented from scratch that someone else now runs without you. What was broken before, and what changed after?
  • Tell us about a time you owned purchasing or vendor relationships. What did you buy, from whom, what was the annual spend, and what's one deal you negotiated?
  • Tell us about a stretch where you were handling several urgent things at once, like a production issue, a vendor problem, and a deadline all landing in the same week. How did you decide what came first, and what did you let wait?
