Work Schedule: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, with frequent overtime

Job Overview

New Edge Diesels specializes in commercial truck diagnostics and repair. We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead daily shop operations, supervise the team, and keep repairs moving efficiently from intake through completion.

This role is responsible for setting shop priorities, holding employees accountable, resolving operational issues, and working with ownership to improve performance. You will oversee service writing and administrative work, provide hands-on support when needed, and ensure customers receive clear communication and dependable service.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Shop Workflow & Priorities: Direct daily scheduling and work assignments based on technician skills, bay capacity, parts availability, and customer commitments. Adjust priorities and resolve bottlenecks.
• Team Leadership: Set clear expectations for technicians and office staff, delegate work, monitor follow-through, coach employees, and address performance and attendance concerns with ownership.
• Repair Progress: Review open jobs daily, act on stalled repairs, and coordinate solutions for parts delays, pending approvals, and changes in repair scope.
• Customer & Fleet Relations: Oversee customer updates and completion commitments. Handle escalated complaints, disputed charges, and service concerns within owner-approved authority.
• Repair Orders & Billing: Oversee estimates, authorizations, technician documentation, labor, parts, and invoices in Shopmonkey. Audit accuracy and correct recurring errors or missed billing.
• Parts & Vendors: Oversee purchasing and supplier coordination, resolve significant delivery or return issues, and manage spending within approved limits.
• Quality & Shop Standards: Coordinate completion checks with qualified technicians, track comebacks, and enforce expectations for safety, cleanliness, and organization.
• Performance & Ownership Reporting: Monitor turnaround times, technician productivity, labor and parts margins, and overtime. Report concerns to ownership and implement agreed improvements.

Tools, Software & Technology

• Shopmonkey (Shop Management System); Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive)
• QuickBooks or related accounting software (preferred); phone, email, and SMS

Qualifications

Experience:

• Experience in a dealership, independent diesel repair shop, or comparable commercial vehicle service environment is required.
• Demonstrated experience supervising employees and directing daily shop operations, including setting priorities, resolving customer escalations, and holding a team accountable.
• Experience as an Operations Manager, Shop Manager, Service Manager, or a similar supervisory role is preferred.

Education:

• GED or high school diploma required. Business or automotive-related coursework preferred but not required.

Technical Skills:

• Working knowledge of diesel repair terminology, diagnostic and repair processes, estimates, parts coordination, and repair-order systems.
• Ability to review shop performance reports, identify workflow problems, and use computers and shop management software effectively.

Language & Communication Skills:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Spanish fluency is highly preferred.

• Ability to manage competing priorities, lead professionally, and work frequent overtime.
