What they need
Operations Planner II
Lumos Diagnostics | Carlsbad, California | Full-Time, Onsite
Great products depend on great planning. Help us make it happen.
At Lumos Diagnostics, our mission is to develop, manufacture, and distribute innovative diagnostic products—delivering actionable information, in real-time, at the point of care.
Bringing that mission to life takes more than innovation. It takes thoughtful planning, strong collaboration, and operational excellence to ensure our products are manufactured efficiently and reliably.
That's where you come in.
We're looking for an Operations Planner II who thrives on connecting the dots between production schedules, material availability, inventory, and manufacturing priorities.
Someone who thinks ahead, anticipates challenges, and enjoys turning complex operational needs into clear, actionable plans.
In this role, you'll work closely with our Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, and R&D teams to help keep production moving, solve operational challenges, and support the continued growth of Lumos Diagnostics.
Your planning makes our progress possible.
The Opportunity
As an Operations Planner II, you'll play an important role in ensuring our manufacturing operations have the materials, schedules, and information needed to deliver results.
You'll coordinate production planning for our Assembly and Chemistry operations, maintain accurate information within our ERP system, monitor inventory and capacity, and provide meaningful operational insights to support informed decision-making.
This is a hands-on planning position that offers the opportunity to work across multiple departments, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and see the direct impact of your work on our manufacturing performance.
What You'll Be Doing
- Keep production on track. Develop, maintain, and communicate production schedules, balancing demand, material availability, and manufacturing capacity.
- Connect planning with execution. Coordinate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to anticipate constraints, communicate priorities, and support timely production.
- Keep materials moving. Support material requirements planning, purchasing activities, inventory accuracy, and supplier coordination to help ensure production readiness.
- Make data work harder. Use NetSuite, Excel, and operational dashboards to monitor inventory, production performance, material availability, and schedule attainment.
- Manage the details that matter. Create, release, and close work orders, maintain approved bills of materials, and ensure accurate ERP transactions and production documentation.
- Solve problems before they become disruptions. Identify scheduling and material risks, recommend practical solutions, and support continuous improvement.
- Bring teams together. Coordinate cross-functional initiatives, track project timelines and deliverables, and keep stakeholders informed of progress and priorities.
What Success Looks Like
We're looking for someone who brings more than strong technical skills. The right person is proactive, resourceful, analytical, and committed to helping the broader team succeed.
You'll thrive in this role if you:
- Think Ahead: Anticipate material shortages, scheduling conflicts, and capacity constraints before they disrupt production.
- Own the Details: Maintain accurate production schedules, inventory information, and operational reporting while consistently following through on commitments.
- Connect the Dots: Understand how decisions across Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality affect overall operational performance.
- Communicate with Purpose: Build strong working relationships, keep stakeholders informed, and raise potential challenges early.
- Turn Data Into Action: Use ERP systems, Excel, and operational metrics to identify trends, solve problems, and recommend improvements.
- Deliver Results: Manage competing priorities effectively while maintaining accuracy, accountability, and a commitment to quality.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for someone who combines strong analytical and organizational skills with practical experience in production planning, material management, and manufacturing operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field, along with 2–4 years of relevant experience in production planning, material planning, purchasing, or manufacturing operations. An equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience may be considered.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems, including work orders, purchase orders, bills of materials, and inventory transactions.
- Experience developing, maintaining, and updating production schedules and material plans.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including lookups and pivot tables, and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience preparing reports or dashboards to monitor inventory and production performance.
- Project coordination experience, including tracking timelines, activities, and deliverables.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with NetSuite, including reporting, saved searches, or dashboards.
- Experience in medical device, in vitro diagnostics (IVD), pharmaceutical, or other FDA-regulated manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA quality system requirements, Good Documentation Practices, and label control.
- Experience planning both Assembly and Chemistry or reagent production.
- Experience with Power BI or similar reporting and business intelligence tools.
- Familiarity with project coordination tools such as Microsoft Project or Smartsheet.
- APICS/ASCM certification, such as CPIM or CSCP.
