About the role

Join a 2026 AFR BOSS Best Places to Work Gold Winner and 2026 Sustainability Champion recognised by the World Steel Association. Play a key role in shaping our performance across our Tonkin Steel business.

Reporting to the Branch Manager and based at our Mareeba site, you will take ownership of the day-to-day operations across our Mareeba and Atherton centres, ensuring customer orders are coordinated, loaded and delivered safely.

You will lead a small team at both centres and be responsible for dispatch and delivery activities, coordinate transport requirements, manage competing priorities and work closely with customers and sales teams to ensure a high level of customer service.

This is a hands-on leadership role, combining people management, logistics coordination, administration and on-the-ground support across a range of areas of the business.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead and coordinate daily dispatch and delivery activities to ensure customer orders are prepared, loaded and delivered safely and on time.
  • Supervise, coach and support the dispatch and delivery team, fostering a strong safety-first and customer-focused culture.
  • Coordinate transport requirements, delivery schedules and driver/vehicle availability.
  • Work closely with sales, customers, transport providers and other branches to manage delivery requirements, resolve issues and keep customers informed.
  • Oversee administration, documentation, inventory movements and operational reporting, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.

This is a Full-time Permanent role with standard hours being Monday-Friday 7.30am-4pm.

You will be rewarded with:

  • Ongoing training and career development opportunities locally and across the broader business
  • Competitive salary package and employee benefits

Primary Benefits:

We offer a range of benefits designed to support you at work and beyond:

  • Paid parental leave that goes further - 20 weeks paid Primary Carer Leave and 3 weeks Partner Leave, plus superannuation contributions during unpaid leave (eligibility applies)
  • Health cover at discounted rates - Access corporate rates with nib Health Insurance to support you and your family
  • Everyday savings - Access a wide range of employee discounts across major brands including retail, travel and lifestyle

What you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in logistics, dispatch, transport, warehousing or a similar fast-paced operational environment. Experience in manufacturing, steel or building products will be highly regarded.
  • Previous people leadership or supervisory experience, with the ability to lead, coach and support a team in a hands-on environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work with customers, drivers, transport providers, sales teams and other internal stakeholders.
  • Strong computer literacy and administration skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and/or ERP, transport or logistics systems.
  • Current forklift licence is essential.
  • A current driver's licence is essential. A truck licence is not required, however, the opportunity to obtain a higher-class licence may be supported for the right candidate.
