Lead the Team. Own the Operation. Make the Event Happen.

Looking for a hands-on leadership position where you can make a real impact every day?

Join the Operations Team at the Fredericksburg Convention Center, where we host conventions, trade shows, weddings, banquets, concerts, and special events throughout the year.

As an Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for leading the team and making sure events are ready, organized, professional, and completed on time.

This is a working leadership position.

When you are the supervisor on duty, you own the operation.

We are looking for someone who can take a floorplan, understand what needs to happen, organize the team, keep employees productive, solve problems, and make sure the finished event meets our standards—without needing to be told what to do every step of the way.

What You'll Do

Lead Event Operations

  • Review floorplans, event requirements, schedules, and operational needs.
  • Organize and direct the Operations Team to complete setups accurately and on schedule.
  • Ensure event spaces are fully prepared before guests arrive.
  • Monitor progress throughout the shift and adjust assignments as needed.
  • Complete event refreshes and turnovers with strong attention to detail.
  • Conduct final walkthroughs and correct incomplete or missed details.
  • Respond to changing event needs and solve operational problems.
  • Ensure breakdowns and post-event responsibilities are completed properly.
  • Take ownership of the event from setup through completion.

Lead & Develop Your Team

  • Get to know your employees and understand their individual strengths, skills, and areas for development.
  • Assign employees strategically based on their skills while helping team members develop new ones.
  • Keep employees productive throughout their entire shift.
  • Create and assign productive projects during downtime.
  • Motivate employees and maintain a positive, professional team environment.
  • Give clear direction and set expectations.
  • Recognize strong performance and address performance issues when necessary.
  • Coach employees and help develop future leaders.
  • Be confident speaking up, making decisions, and leading when something needs to be addressed.
  • Build positive working relationships with employees while maintaining appropriate accountability and professional standards.

Facility & Guest Operations

  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and event-ready facility.
  • Assist with cleaning, maintenance, painting, landscaping, equipment organization, and other facility projects when needed.
  • Train and/or become qualified to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, floor scrubbers, pallet jacks, and other operational equipment.
  • Follow OSHA and company safety procedures.
  • Assist with emergency preparedness and security procedures.
  • Set building alarms and complete closing procedures when assigned.
  • Greet and assist customers and provide a professional first point of contact.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with clients, vendors, employees, and management.

The Person We're Looking For

This position is a great fit for someone who:

  • Takes ownership instead of waiting to be told what to do.
  • Can take a floorplan and turn it into an organized plan of action.
  • Knows how to keep a team productive without constant direction from management.
  • Can identify productive work when there is downtime.
  • Enjoys working with people and knows how to motivate different personalities.
  • Is comfortable giving direction and holding employees accountable.
  • Maintains a positive attitude during stressful or fast-paced events.
  • Can make decisions and solve problems independently.
  • Notices details and takes pride in completing work correctly.
  • Leads by example and is willing to work alongside the team.
  • Communicates professionally with employees, customers, vendors, and management.
  • Understands that successful events require both speed and attention to detail.
  • Is dependable, punctual, flexible, and willing to step up when the operation needs additional support.

Schedule

This is an event-driven operation, so schedules vary based on the events taking place at the facility.

Full-time supervisors are scheduled for approximately 30–40 hours per week based on operational and event needs.

Availability is required for a combination of:

  • Days
  • Evenings
  • Nights
  • Weekends
  • Holidays
  • Extended shifts when required by event schedules

If you are looking for a traditional Monday–Friday, 9–5 schedule, this position may not be the right fit.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Previous supervisory, team lead, operations, hospitality, facilities, warehouse, event, or other hands-on leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to organize people and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically active environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, pull, and move equipment throughout a shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to learn and operate forklifts, scissor lifts, floor scrubbers, pallet jacks, and similar equipment.
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.

Equipment certifications are a plus. Training is available for qualified employees.

Why Join Our Team? Make an Impact

You'll be directly involved in making events happen and will see the results of your work every day.

Build Leadership Skills

Lead a team, develop employees, solve problems, manage changing priorities, and gain valuable event operations experience.

Every Day Is Different

Our facility hosts conventions, trade shows, weddings, banquets, concerts, and special events. No two event days are exactly alike.
