Operations Support Worker

Permanent Part Time/Full-Time | Lismore & Goonellabah

St Carthage's Cathedral Parish in Lismore is a vibrant Catholic community. Guided by our mission, we seek to create welcoming, respectful and supportive environments where people feel valued, connected and cared for.

We are seeking a reliable, organised and community-minded Operations Support Worker to support the day-to-day operations of the Parish and St Carthage's Community Care. This diverse role combines administrative and practical work across reception, events, facilities and community activities. It is ideally suited for someone who enjoys variety, working with people and contributing to meaningful community outcomes.

About the role

In this hands-on, dynamic role, you'll help the Parish run smoothly while providing a welcoming, professional experience for parishioners, visitors, volunteers and community members. You'll support our parish and community care teams across a broad range of activities, including administration, cleaning, housekeeping, information technology, events and liturgical services.

Reporting to the Parish Operations Manager, you’ll work across a variety of operational and community-focused functions. This role is centered on creating positive experiences for those who engage with our community while helping maintain safe, organised and welcoming facilities and services.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing a warm and professional first point of contact for visitors, parishioners, volunteers and service providers.
  • Supporting the Parish Office with administration, correspondence, records management, filing and document preparation.
  • Assisting with newsletters, bulletins, sacramental certificates, funeral booklets and parish communications.
  • Supporting parish events, meetings, community programs and special functions, including set-up and pack-down activities.
  • Assisting clergy and parish staff with operational and administrative tasks.
  • Providing support for sacramental programs, liturgical celebrations and community activities.
  • Assisting with volunteer engagement and coordination.
  • Supporting meeting room technology, audio-visual equipment and presentation systems.
  • Assisting with cleaning, housekeeping, gardening and general facilities support as required.
  • Identifying and reporting maintenance, safety or operational issues.

What we're looking for

Essential

  • Experience in administration, reception, customer service, community services or a similar people-focused role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing positively within a team environment.
  • Understanding of workplace health and safety, manual handling and safe work practices.
  • Current NSW Driver's Licence.
  • A respectful approach to the mission and values of the Catholic Church.

Desirable

  • Previous experience within a community, not-for-profit or faith-based organisation.
  • Experience supporting events, functions or community programs.
  • Confidence using audio-visual equipment and basic technology systems.
  • First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience coordinating volunteers or supporting community engagement activities.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving outdoor manual labour as required
  • Ability and willingness to assist with practical operational tasks when required.

Why join us?

At St Carthage's, you'll be part of a team that values compassion, respect, accountability and inclusion. We offer:

  • A meaningful role supporting parishioners, clergy and the wider community.
  • A supportive and values-driven workplace.
  • A genuinely varied role where no two days are the same.
  • The opportunity to build relationships and make a positive impact in people's lives.
  • The chance to contribute to the mission and future of a vibrant parish community.
