Duties

• Perform preliminary patient intake, including collecting medical history and updating electronic health records (EHR) accurately and efficiently.
• Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to assist in comprehensive eye assessments.
• Conduct ophthalmic diagnostic tests using specialized equipment like tonometry for intraocular pressure measurement, A-scan biometry for axial length assessment, and ophthalmic imaging devices.
• Assist with eye refraction procedures to determine prescription needs and support optical services.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique during clinical procedures to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
• Operate medical equipment safely and effectively, including slit lamps, visual acuity charts, and other diagnostic tools aligned with physiology knowledge.
• Support patient service by explaining procedures clearly, answering questions professionally, and ensuring a positive experience while adhering to clinical confidentiality policies.
• Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR) systems diligently, ensuring accurate documentation of examinations and treatments.
• Assist ophthalmologists during examinations by preparing instruments, maintaining clinical confidentiality policies, and supporting direct patient care activities.
• Uphold HIPAA regulations by safeguarding patient information at all times and maintaining the highest standards of medical records management.

Qualifications

• Prior medical office experience with a focus on ophthalmology or optometry is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology related to the eye, and medical terminology relevant to ophthalmic care.
• Experience operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as tonometers, A-scan devices, and visual field analyzers.
• Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for managing electronic health records efficiently.
• Excellent patient service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately in a clinical setting.
• Ability to perform ophthalmic patient examinations accurately while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and best practices for maintaining patient confidentiality in healthcare environments.
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a team-oriented setting with attention to detail and professionalism.
• Optical or retail math experience is a plus for supporting optical services and billing processes.
