What they need

Are you passionate about helping people look, see, and feel their best?

Join our growing team at Johnson Curran Optometry Centers in the New River Valley! We are under new leadership and entering an exciting new chapter. Cultivating a supportive workplace culture is important to us as we provide eye healthcare in our communities.

We are seeking enthusiastic, patient-focused individuals to fill our Optical and Scribe roles. The applicant should expect their primary role to be a Scribe but also cross-trained as an Optical Assistant when the scribe role is not applicable. This would occur on days where the Optometrist is on vacation, not in office, or during hours where patient appointments are not occurring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scribe: Primarily responsible for medically assisting the doctor and accurately documenting patient examinations in their chart. Documentation of examinations to include but not limited to: tests results, charting patient encounters as the exam is occurring, capturing examination findings, notation of diagnosis and prescriptions for glasses, contact lenses, and medications.
  • Front Desk: Greet patients, manage check-ins, answer inquiries, and ensure a smooth, welcoming front office experience.
  • Administrative Care: Maintain accurate records, manage insurance verifications, and handle pre-authorizations smoothly.
  • Style & Styling Consultation: Help customers select frames and lenses that match their unique lifestyle, preferences, and prescription.
  • Technical Eye Care: Learn to take precise measurements, dispense, adjust, and repair eyewear, and assist contact lens patients.
  • Team Collaboration: Actively participate in paid training events and maintain a clean, collaborative, and organized environment.

Successful candidate will:

  • Possess excellent communication skills and an acute attention to detail.
  • Be an adaptable teammate with the ability to multi-task in a busy setting.
  • Be responsible and bring a high level of integrity to your work.
  • Be professional when working alongside the doctor and our patients.
  • Be a self-motivated team player wanting to make a difference.
  • Be flexible for Patients: Because our patients need us a different times, flexibility for evenings and an occasional half-day Saturday is required.

Why Join Us? Our Employee Promise

  • Supportive Leadership: We are committed to creating a positive workplace where employees enjoy coming to work, feel valued, and are supported as they grow professionally.
  • On the Job Training: No previous eye care experience? No problem. We have multiple ways to help you learn as you develop skills in the optical industry.
  • Goal-Oriented Success: We provide clear, attainable performance goals and reward success through our bonus program. By working together to meet these goals, we can create an outstanding experience for our patients.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Enjoy competitive pay, health insurance, eye care benefits, a 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO), holiday pay, and a stable 40-hour work week.
